Large State Schools for Pretty Good Student?

I have a GPA of around 3.0 unweighted, 3.4 weighted. I have taken lots of honors and AP classes. I am looking for large, state schools that are well rounded, and just generally fun to attend. I am looking at UMD simply because it is in-state, but I don't know if I would really like to go there. I am looking at Towson as a safety. My reaches are Penn State and Texas. My good matches, which I believe I would like to attend an equal amount as the reaches, are Arizona and Auburn. Can anyone suggest some more schools, or comment on my choices?

Despite its party school rep, U/Arizona is pretty good for a larger state school.

I really like the location too. It seems like there's lots to do there, and the weather is perfect.

Arizona State.

The chicks man! The chicks!

You're good for Auburn unless you have an absolutely dreadful and I mean dreadful standardized test score. I know people in your GPA range who got into Auburn and took less rigorous classes. You should also try the University of Alabama. I think you would be a guaranteed lock there.

State suck though. If I go to U of A, I'll be right there, so I'd be able to get State chicks if I wanted, but also get a better education. I think I'll get around a 2000 on the SAT. I got a 181 on my PSAT.

ASU's rep is terrible...dont apply there. U of A is much better....

:p

Indiana......

Eck, this new SAT scale just isnt as nice at the 1600 scale was? What does a 2000 translate to?

Iowa...........

It translates to a 1330. That's my goal. I think I will probably get just a little lower than that. I don't want to go to Iowa because it's in a horrible location. I just looked Indiana up on Princeton Review, and it looks horrible.

University of Georgia is an awesome state school. You might have a bit of a hard time getting in with a 3.0 gpa, but you should still try it.

Don't schools take the weighted GPA into account?

UGA has its own way of reconfiguring your unweighted gpa. Its weird.

Iowa City is a cool college town as is Bloomington IN. What do you know anyway--ever been to either? I have.
Both are excellent schools with many great depts.

Indiana has about the top music school in the country, and one of the leading business schools. Great campus and other strong departments. When you are looking at state schools, you can't go by average SATs etc. like you would with the more elite schools. A lot of in-state kids make it in with lower scores but get weeded out really fast.

Consider Kansas...we know a bunch there and all are content. Also Florida State...suspect they are notch above Arizona and Auburn academically.

I'm considering University of Florida, but not Florida State. I'm going to major in either Psychology or Film.

San Diego state
