Large State Schools for Pretty Good Student?

Why go to a state school if it isn't in your state? Out of state tuition puts the cost closer to a private school and financial aid is going to be targeted toward instate students in most cases. Consider a second tier LAC with good financial aid recources or if money isn't an issue try the new California UC Merced. I suspect they may be open to out of state applicants for a year or two, then they will become as selective as the rest of the UC system.

I hate the people found at private schools. I really just want somewhere with good weather, and a lot to do. State schools are usually bigger and more fun than private schools. I don't need financial aid.

Alabama has a good academic program for smart people, great college environment too

UT austin.. the best

Arizona as a state is fairly conservative republican...might want to take that into account, don't know how much that matters to you...

You can't get any more well-rounded than UCB/UCLA among large state schools...

I'll second Indiana and Iowa. I grew up in Iowa City. It's wonderful. Also, how about Colorado at Boulder?

I think the University of Georgia could be a nice fit if your test scores are at your expectations. I have a friend who is going there next year, and he loves athens. and the chicks are said to be incredible. Many say Athens has the feel of Lawrence, KS(KU) but has better weather and better programs. But top notch social life.

I like Austin a lot.

I have no chance of going to a UC, even though I have legacy.

I know Arizona is pretty conservative, and I'm radically liberal, but I don't really care. I have lots of Republican friends. We'll probably partying too much to talk about politics.

I second the SDSU suggestion.

Enjoipaintball6, you say you like Austin a lot. Austin is the place to be. They've got great music, lots of people, and Texas is a great state. Since I'm a Texas guy, I might be biased, but Texas is really a nice place to live. I went to the UT Honors Colloquium and got to see pretty much everything about UT. It's fan-freaking-tastic. They have everything. EVERYTHING. It's huge. I mean - its enormous. Remember - biggest school in the USA. You can do anything you want cuz its all there. And there's no question that you will be able to get in. Your stats put you at the top of their midrange stats for freshmen.

U Florida from out of state? Sorry, huge reach. Maybe FSU....

suprised nobodys mentioned umich

if you knew more about the person who we are discussing, you wouldn't be.

Umich too tough to get into.

Michigan is too hard to get into. Florida is a reach for me, but I will still apply there.

I know a in-state/double legacy of UF rejected to UF and accepted at Michigan. UF- a major reach for out-of-state and in-state.

Sure and I know a B average 1100 SAT admitted to Princeton. Weird things happen but the averages don't lie.

Isn't FSU the Florida school with the film school?
