its intresting to see some rather unknowns on the list such as,rockefeller u and yeshiva

Yeshiva is a top-50 university that has a very strong med school and law school. It is hardly an unknown.

Rockefeller is hardly unknown. It is a science powerhouse, one of the premier research institutes in the world, but there are no undergraduates. If you end up in grad school in molecular biology there are few better places.

what does the endowment mean?

Invested money. The key is "invested" which means that the institution keeps the money there without spending much of it (and that's why you still have to pay tuition).

I see some errors there. The Wisconsin number is for the UW Foundation which is only for the Madison campus. The UW System has another endowment that is for all campuses although 90% is designated for Madison.

I would strongly suspect that it would be a school like Rockefeller at the top of the "endowment per student" listing, simply because Rockefeller has so few students. According to its website, Rockefeller has 200 students. Divide that into the $1.557 billion endowment listed above, and you get about $7.8 million per student, which clearly dwarfs any of the other schools mentioned.

<a href="http://www.rockefeller.edu/about.php%5B/url%5D">http://www.rockefeller.edu/about.php</a></p>

With BU in last! Yay! :P

Rockefeller is really a research institute, with a few students, rather than a conventional university, that also does a lot of research. Misleading to include it on the list. Too different.

Well, the Baylor College of Medicine (not Baylor University, but BCM) and UCSF are pretty specialized, yet they are on the list.
