It was announced this week that Larry Bacow will step down as President of Tufts at the end of the 2010-11 academic year. Bacow is generally regarded as a first rate president. Replacing him won't be easy.
I am curious how current Tufts students feel about the end of the Bacow era.

We are SAD SAD SAD to see him go, but he did put in a decade here and turned down offers from, for example, Harvard to serve out his tenure at Tufts.
I’m excited for my Senior Dinner - Bacow hosts members of the senior class for champagne dinners at his house throughout the year.

I have to say that I feel heart-broken (D is a first-year)—he is so charismatic (in the best sense of that word) and intelligent. When listening to him, even when not close enough to see, you can hear the twinkle in his eye.

The way I cheer myself up about this news is that the previous search committee was able to identify (and persuade) President Bacow so they should be able to do it again—and because of Bacow, it should be a more alluring post than when he accepted.

But, dang…
