So, I get that I'd get an earlier registration date, a few honors classes, etc., etc. But what else does being a James Scholar entail? Alsooo, what exactly were the prereqs for becoming one?

As to the unspoken question, no it does provide any scholarship money. Many consider one of its best benefits to be the ability after your first semester to be able to register for classes before others in your class for each semester. That can be an important advantage for popular classes at ideal times of the day that can easily fill early in the registration process.

The intent is to capture the top 12% to 15% of the class into the James Scholars and it usually based for LAS on a combination of high school grades and test scores.

On the website those chosen for James Scholar from the Business school are chosen based on more than just grades and test scores but also on EC’s and essays on the applications. drusba- in your experience would you say this is true? Do you think they are looking to get a group from out of state and international as well?

Business college does almost everything via full file review, which is why some with 35 ACTs and 3.9 unweighted GPAs will find themselves being offered admission into DGS or LAS economics despite applying to business. Nevertheless, you should assume grades and test scores will be the key factors in determining those offered the James Scholars… It is based on what they think are the best applicants without regard to some quota for any particular group.

Does anyone know when decisions go out for the LAS James Scholars? And, what are the requirements for qualification as an incoming freshmen? Thanks!

Does anyone know if these were awarded yet to LAS students yet?

I don’t think so! I emailed them today and asked them when they were sending out the notifications. I have yet to hear back.

I got it as an incoming freshman… you guys already at U of I?

^Did you get it in the mail or by email?

Got it in the mail a while back, but I applied for early notification in October, so it could be coming later to kids accepted in later rounds.
