Daughter got an email from UC Berkeley today, inviting her to an "Overnight Stay Program" at the school. It clearly says this does not guarantee acceptance, but does anyone know whether or not this is a good thing that they invited her to come stay at the school?

The letter itself starts out:
*Dear student applicant to The Leadership Award,

As you consider your college admissions decision, we invite you to save the date to experience student and campus life at UC Berkeley through the OVERNIGHT STAY PROGRAM (OSP), a 2-day campus visit organized by the Leadership Award Scholars Association (LASA).

Please note that receiving this invitation does not impact Admissions decisions, and your decision to attend OSP is contingent upon your admission to UC Berkeley. If accepted, you will receive an email from us on March 30 with instructions on how to register online at: Overnight Stay Program 2012 | CAA.*

Looking at last year's thread here is what I gathered:

*LASA and OSP are associated with the Cal Alumni Association and not with Admissions.
Reading the email, it seems like it was just sent to every person that applied for the Leadership Scholarship and it serves as more of a 'Save the Date'. *

It would seem a little “strange” to invite you but reject your admission at the same time. I’d take this as a positive and if you do plan on going, I’d accept ASAP :).

Alumni Association does not have anything to do with Admissions Office. Just as they sent invitation to every applicant to apply for their scholarship, this email was sent to every applicant as well. So we just have to wait until Thursday to find out the decision.

I got it too, but why in the world would they send this to us 2 days before admissions come out; as opposed to waiting til they know who is actually in and sending them the email?

I got it too, and I’m wondering the same thing as Steve; why would they send this to us now and then say we have to wait three days for the official invitation?

I got it too. I believe it is for all leadership award scholarship applicants. Probably a reminder to wait for UCB too while we are getting too excited about other admission offers :)

Well, why does it say at the end of the email, “Best of luck on your college admissions decisions and we hope you will join us at OSP.” I don’t understand why the Alumni Association does this sort of thing unless it means something. They could have waited two bloody days before inviting the accepted students instead of sending it today and freaking out the poor kids. If, in fact, they operate independent of Admissions, then they should be instructed not to do this sort of thing and induce more stress on a bunch of seniors already totally beyond the pale.

only a small number of people on cc even responded to receiving that email. My guess is that only a limited number of people received it and are getting a heads up that an acceptance is probably on the way and to please respond quickly to the leadership weekend (or at least save the date) so you don’t have a date conflict with an Ivy league or another elite level university. But they can’t ‘officially’ let you know yet.
