Just curious about what would look most impressive to the adcoms (like what activities) when describing your last 2 summers. Thanks.

I talked about:

Studying for acdec

Volunteering through Red Cross, Congresman, and Cancer Society

Summer Research

Though…my paper was a little long (2200 characters)

What’s your intended major?

Biology (molecular)

i learned french, latin
went to visit princeton
went to niagara falls…
spent time with my dad
played tennis

I simply talked about what I did during the summer in terms of research, volunteering, music activities (I’m a band/orchestra guy). Nothing fancy - I kept it pretty straightforward. Mine was about 2400 characters, if I remember correctly.

Are you gonna be a music major?

SO my summers essay is 3201 characters without spaces and 3880 with spaces, does anyone know if the 2500 character limit includes spaces? I need to know how much to cut out.

did anyone try to make theirs creative? I guess that’s why mine is longer but I also have a tendency to write long essays. I talked about four things: 2 college classes I’ve taken, a service trip I designed and working at a summer camp.

I listed what I did with a bit of explanation if necessary. I doubt they’re looking for a Russian novel…

hehe. my summer one is the best.

drum corps anyone?

how many words doe 3000 characters translate to?
are we supposed to make it sound fluid and beautifully written like the supp. essay and the common app? Are we supposed to tell it like its a story?

It includes spaces

woah, it was supposed to be an essay? Or am I just misreading the above comments? like, could you actually upload a document in word format? If so - whoops, completely missed that I just listed everything I did. crappp.

I don’t think you had to do an essay, and if I remember correctly, you couldn’t upload a separate document. I put mine in paragraph form, but I made it very straightforward. I know some people who made theirs creative like a story, and others who just wrote lists, so I don’t think it matters one way or another, as long as you tell them what you did.

stix: What corps did you march?

I wanted to march this past summer but I had a research opportunity I couldnt pass up o well maybe in college

Hey fossil!

Congrats on Rice. Its a gorgeous school. Did they give you century scholars yet?
