College Essay: Pretty good, exemplifies my qualities and natural voice very well. Talks about my passion for extracurricular and how I had to overcome some financial difficulties/intrinsic difficulties etc.

Letters of Rec: Very good, I've had the opportunity to read all of them and the teachers simply rave about me. The letters are actually very genuine and deep, although I'm not sure how true of it is about me :o but I'm very pleased and satisfied with my teacher's work. (Sent them a nice handwritten letter back in appreciation)

Extracurriculars:

President of Boxing Club 3 years

Fremont Boxing Club 4 years

Varsity Wrestling 4 years; basically my high school life all here. Placed at many frosh tournaments, placed 1st in many other tournaments, got injured freshman year and sick sophomore year so could not run up for leagues/sections. In Junior year, made sections for my area.

Varsity Wrestling Captain 4 years; entered high school and became captain -- dedicated myself in season and off season

Varsity Crosscountry 4 years

Varsity Crosscountry Captain 3 years

Varsity Track and Field 4 years

20+ Hours of Boxing tutoring; worked at a club with middle school kids who wanted to learn how to box. Really enjoyed it -- it was for free of course. I got hooked up with some of my neighbors' kids who wanted to learn boxing as well.

STAR Tutoring 1 year

FBLA 4 years; Took up FBLA as a freshman and went to state and nationals for one of the events. Took a place in nationals for said event in Atlanta as a Junior.
Future Business Leaders of America Officer 1 year;

NHS officer 1 year

JSA 4 years; politics club. went to many conventions and took titles in them but not many. Genuine interest in politics/government and went to many conventions to watch debaters

JSA Officer 1 year

100+ Hours of Job for Family's financial needs; Family in financial crisis since economy has been choking a big **** lately. Worked at the job to supplement financial needs and I have learned a lot and gained a lot of social/personal experience through this... but am not writing about it in my essay.

60 Hours of Community Service; random community service here or there because my family always believed that even if we're not financially well off, we can always do more to help those more in need than ourselves

Several Business Internships; Not too spectacular, got some experience off referrals between people. Got jobs through people who liked me as an intern etc etc.

^ I know the above EC's are not very good...but I'm hoping my essay will reveal more character than any EC's could.

I always thought that I should do what I love so I always condemned those "transcript padders". Rest assured, the above EC's are things that I'm passionate and devoted about (never saw point of doing something I didn't have an interest in)

Colleges:

UCSD
UCLA
UC Berkeley
UPenn
Cornell
Yale
NYU

Any other colleges that you think would match...

Also, several questions:

1) Will the mistaken "F" on my community college transcript profoundly impact me? I know that it will hurt to some extent but if I give a thorough explanation...do you think there will be any significant repercussions?

2) If I know that I want to be a business major and show it through my EC's, will that impact my chances in any way?

LOL @ the F. Wow, :</p>

^ Yes, it sucks, hopefully they’ll give me a little box to write a note about it -_-

I guess rule are rules though.

Bumping.

You will be in everywhere I think. Just write good essays :)

Mention briefly why you got F, do not go over the top, that would be ok. They would like to see you briefly stating the reason, not excusing e.t.c.

^ Thanks for the advice. Any specific comments about reach/match against those schools would be very much appreciated!

I don’t get how you’re class of 2010.

I think you are in at all the schools you mentioned, even if you don’t explain the F to them lol

^ woops that was a typo. I’m class of 2009. Thanks for the opinions!

Any others?

You have a very good chance, but then again nothing is for certain with HYP.

^ Thanks.

Could anybody give me an opinion on the “F” thing, how colleges will see it, and the low GPA unweighted?

I know these things will hurt me but does anybody have some kind of past experience/advice to relate to?

Appreciate it.

Hey wait a minute…I’m pretty sure those ECs are perfectly fine. They show your genuine (focused) interests, and they show a lot of dedication. 4 years of multiple varsity sports, officer in several clubs, etc. plus a job…plus community college courses… You are showing that you are able to manage your time very well.

I think in light of that, a lower freshman GPA can be forgiven. That F…well I think it wouldn’t hurt you so much because it appears so inconsistent from the rest of your grades. Just put a brief explanation…I don’t know how to write it unscathingly lol “I withdrew from this course, but due to clerical error, I was never withdrawn?”

Anyways, I think all of your colleges are matches, but as usimperialist said, hyp can be so unpredictable. Especially for us yellow people xD

Good luck, and pay attention to those apps.
(btw you know that class of 2009 doesn’t have score choice?)

Why do you say you’re from “NY” as well as from California?

Yeah sorry your topic’s really fishy…

in everywhere but yale for sure, but i’m confused you say 4 ap classes, then you have lik 7 listed down as getting 5’s on them, then you say you have 5 ap’s in your senior year? doesn’t make sense…

I find it funny that you can’t correctly identify the year that you’ll be graduating. Plus, AP Calc D? Is that even a class?

Plus, why would you be taking AP Gov/Stats right now if you already got a 5 on the exam. This thread makes no sense.

But if you are telling the truth here you’ve got a great shot at any university in the U.S.

^ I self studied my AP classes. I moved from NY to Cali which is why I still have NY.

I don’t see why anybody would fake a “Chance” thread.

I put in a typo; I said I was 2009 if you didn’t look up the thread guitarman89.

Yes, Calc D is a class in my school.

I am taking AP Gov/ Stats right now because those are the APs offered in my Senior year (I would have less classes otherwise)…

thanks for the chances, you guys. Appreciate it.
