<pre><code> Although success is something that all people yearn for, it is not always the panacea for a persons problems. Success can create adversity just as easily as it can cause it.
In the novel Brave New World by Huxley, the main character Bernard intiially lived a modest life on the outskirts of society. His diminuitive sxtature made him an anomaly in the futuristic, perfectly engineered world. However, when he brings back the Savage John and humiliates the Director, Bernard suddenly becomes very pouplar. All of the important members of society needlessly laud and fawn over him. Bernard is pleased to be thus integrated into society. One day, the Savage refuses to comply with Bernard's wishes, and the success Bernard has attained is shattered. He has lost the friends he temporarily had, and is in further disgrace than before. Now Bernard's contrary ideas are again considred dangerous, and has become even more of an outcast. That one touch of fame cost Bernard his repuration, career, and respect, showing that success can end in disaster.
In more modern times, success can wreck havoc on personal life. Achievements can create opportunities that tax more important familial relationships. Politicians, such as Elliot Spitzer or Bill Clinton, as well as sports starts such as Tiger Woods succumbed to temptation and cheated on thheir wives. Although the reason why is unclear, part of it must have been the feeling of invincibility that fame brings. Although some people have survived cheating scandals with their families intact, others have bad messy, public divoces and legal battles, a detrimental consequence of their success.
A persom should always aim to acheive their goals. HOwever, in doing so one should not neglect to remember the crucial parts of life, such as one's family, or that success cannot permanently cure all problems.
