Personal Statement:

Pretty darn good in my opinion. I wrote it about 3 days before I submitted my apps but they turned out to be really good either way. I wrote about how I helped a blind student and tutored him my sophomore year and how my family has lived in over 25 different cities and how that has culturally enriched me. My essays definitely gave the admissions officers what they were looking for dead on.

Also, UCSD is on a holistic review (as opposed to the original points system) so please bear that in mind when you chance me. Thanks!

I think you are going to get in. Your extracurriculars put you above a lot of people and also your essay seems really strong. I really hope you get in! Good luck! ^_^

Thanks! Do you really think that I’ll get in even with my low GPA? (UW 3.0 and UC 3.47). That’s the only weak part of my application. :(

It’s going to be very tough for you. Take a look at this admissions graph: [UC San Diego - GPA and Test Scores Needed for Admission](UC San Diego: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores, GPA)

You will notice that they accept applicants with even 3.0 GPA’s. But most likely, these applicants have a very compelling story to tell or a very good reason for the low GPA.

Your extracurriculars are average. Other than your programming, you don’t have a lot, but perhaps the programming could inspire good personal statements. What did you write about?

I’d say you have about a 30%-40% chance of getting in, the latter percentage to be more accurate.

Good luck! The website is down but I believe most of the decisions are up already!

My ECs are average? Really? The most that I’ve heard from ppl at my school were being officers at FBLA or CSF for 300 hours max… and I have 960 hours for tutoring and 1660 for programming. Hmmm, yeah we’ll see I guess.

Sorry, perhaps average wasn’t the correct word. More like…not enough to show what kind of person you are.

Did you write about programming/tutoring in your personal statements or explain it anywhere? Because of the holistic nature of admissions, they try to get to know what kind of person you really are through courses/extracurriculars/involvment and most importantly, personal statements.

If you are very confident that the PS’s represent who you are, then you have a very nice chance of getting admitted.

I saw your post about UC davis and I’m sorry you didn’t get in! Your ec’s and test scores are great, but the GPA is the only thing that is holding you back. I really hope you get into UCSD!
