Last Chances Speculation for HYP + UPenn!

I'm getting accepted/rejected/waitlisted tomorrow, and I'd like to see your guys' speculations to see how well you're good at guessing. I'll be displaying my decisions after I see them tomorrow so go ahead and guess what I'll get into and what I'll get rejected from. It is mostly just probability and luck, but who knows. You could be spot on.

[li] **Weaknesses:
No major hooks. Typical Asian science-influenced applicant.[/li][] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Above.
[li] What would you have done differently?: I would have used score choice to hide my first score although it would make a negligible difference. I think I should have focused more on the mathematical and musical aspects of my life and intermeshed those two together because I believe I shine really well especially in those two areas of concentration. I shouldn’t have focused on my Boy Scouts as much.[/ul]
[/li]

*General Comments: * Accepted in Johns Hopkins, UC Berkeley (Regents), UCLA, UCSD, UCI. Rejected in MIT. Pending applications on Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and UPenn.

Take your shot.
Harvard:
Yale:
Princeton:
UPenn:

Harvard: unpredictable
Yale: unpredictable
Princeton: unpredictable
UPenn: match

but you’re Vietnamese, and it’s a little different than being Chinese, isn’t it? you’re a very strong candidate… I’m sure you’re going to end up somewhere great despite what happens tomorrow  For some reason I think you have a better shot at Princeton than the others…haha let us know if that happens to turn out true!

Yeah, they’re all a crapshoot no matter what. I’m part of the first generation born in the US, but that’s not really a hook. My parents went to community college and transfered to some Cal State for an associate’s or bachelor’s, so I can’t claim first generation college student.

I’ll just guess randomly :P

Harvard: Reject
Yale: Accept
Princeton: Accept (actually, I’m fairly sure of this one :P)
UPenn: Accept

187, are you going to post your admissions results once you receive them? I’m actually interested in knowing where you ultimately wind up… :D

yesyes, i agree with fledgling, please post your results!! i also want to see if my hunch about Princeton was correct :D

Harvard: Rejected
Yale: Wait-listed
Princeton: Accepted
UPenn: Accepted

^^^^^^ congrats i was right about UPenn and half right about Harvard, Yale, Princeton (I said all unpredictable for those three and it yield 3 different results, accept, reject, wait list)

Ha, I was correct for all your decisions except Yale (and even then I wasn’t too far off)! :stuck_out_tongue: I just had a hunch you’d get into Princeton, since I’ve noticed that Princeton tends to take people with great stats (GPA, SAT) like you. Will you be attending? :)

Yeah, I guess you were right about Princeton. Lucky guess!

I’m not sure if I’m attending or not. It’s definitely my top choice so far, but I can’t tell as of now whether I can afford it. I have two siblings, one who’s going to med school this year and another that’s applying to med school next year, meaning that my parents are significantly overburdened with budget issues. I have to pay about $15k for Princeton, which I don’t think my family can afford. I might just opt out for UC Berkeley and its awesome full-ride (I can also double major at Berkeley and get some cools perks for Regents). It’ll probably be one of those two. Sadly though, everything does come down to money.
