SAT I' s:
1950 - Final shot in Janurary for SAT for JHU, Rochester, USC and UW.
Not to sound too optimistic but I think I can pull a 2200+ with all the time I have studied for it. I did not study and pulled a 1950. But just for the hell of it, do you mind doing chances for both 1950 SAT score and 2200+ SAT score?

GPA UW/W:
3.34/ 3.80 - Ouch I know...took the hardest possible classes all at the same time, killed my GPA. I guess you could say that I am the kid that got the B's and few A's without even studying. I have learned from my mistakes in HS and I will take my new attitude for school into me where I go to college.

I also got my 1st trimester grades and with them added I have a 3.39/3.84 UW/W. Now will colleges see the 3.39 because the first trimester grades are already on the transcript which I have not sent yet (Sending Jan 2nd). Does the "mid-year report" refer to the first grading session, or in my case first trimester or is it for the second trimester?

(My GPA with PE/Health is something like 3.40 UW - I am not sure if colleges will add that into the GPA when they consider me even though they are required to graduate at my school)

Rank:
Top 30%, not sure of exact number.

Courseload:
13 AP classes, about 5 C's all together in 13 AP classes so far.

ECs:
Piano 7 yrs
Drums 7 yrs
JV Tennis
Varisty Tennis
Tutoring students after school
Chess club
Ping Pong Club
Volunteering at my church doing fund raisers and other things (+200 hours)
Church youth group secretary (10th)
Church youth group Vice President(11th)
A few others as well, but im more focused on statistics right now.

As you can see, the majority of the EC's are not really school oriented, but instead related with church. I really hope this does not absolutely kill me, but hopefully I can add something in the essays that show my passion for my faith in God.

Personal hobbies/interests:
Play drums for my church praise and worship team which takes around 5 hours a week to prepare for. Besides music as being one of my major hobbies, I do enjoy computer programming and anything related to the computer.

Schools:

Johns Hopkins University
University of Washington
University of Oregon
University of Rochester
University of Wisconsin - Madison
University of Oregon
University of Southern California
University of Pittsburgh

Thanks for your input in advance.

bump......

um so are u around like 20-30%? because if u are then i dont think jhu is realistic. but btw in terms of the sats, i dont want to b too pessimistic but lets just say studying doesnt really help. i took it twice, the first time i actually studied, annd then after a whole year of not studying or anything, i imporvoed from 1470 to 1510 (for math+verbal)
"I guess you could say that I am the kid that got the B's and few A's without even studying." - yea dude me too lol, TERRIBLE CALL now that i think bout it

the thing is......................hinvestorp...................its easier to raise 50-60 points when ur in the 1100 range than when ur in the 1400 range, it all depends on how much ROOM u have to improve in each of ur sections.
i can honestly say if u improve slightly on that SAT score, u'll probably get into every one of ur schools (provided u have solid essays) EXCEPT JHU and USC. USC will then be a reach or match depending on HOW much u've improved but JHU will still be a reach unless u REALLY score like a 2200+.
And how will u make JHU and USC's deadline neway ??? the january SAT is on the 27th and scores will make it by FEB 28th at best. by then they wont even check (JHU might if ur lucky, but not USC).

Hope i was of help

JHU says on their website that they will accept the Jan. 27th deadline. USC says they MAY accept it if it is on time, and that all depends on some random variables that they cannot disclose (probably how many applications they have to look at), but USC may accept them.

In all honesty, I know I have a slim chance at JHU and USC because I just screwed around too much, but i've learned from that and I will be better prepared in college for the coarseload. I was hoping to transfer to JHU as a junior or maybe sophomore. I am definitely not expecting to get into JHU as a freshman haha, but if I do then that is all great.

I really want to go to one of these other schools (University of Rochester, University of Wisconsin - Madison, and University of Washington). Any thoughts for my chances at these schools?

From the studying I have done I know I can at least score 2100 on the Jan. test (not to sound too cocky) , but I know I can do it if I set my mind to it. Anything above a 2100+ will just depend of what type of questions are given at the Jan. test date. Who knows maybe i'll get a 2400 and get into JHU - HAHA (longshot!).

bumop1111111

Hopefully USC will accept rushed score reports - otherwise I might apply as a transfer student next year.

LOL im gonna be honest, raising from a 1950 to a 2200 will be extremely difficult (not to say that you cant/wont) but don't tell otehrs and dont tell urself that because if you put urself up on a pedastool, then then you can fall and embarass yourself. Go in with a mentality of ill do the best i can. I had a 2030 and went to a 2140 so you can definitely jump, but remember don't panic, don't freak out when u don't get a q, just move on and remember to trust ur gut. But anyhow, JHU is really a reach with a 3.3 unless u do hit the 2250-2300 or higher. USC with a 2150 or higher you will be competitive seeing you are male (i hope you applied undeclared. if u applied to USC's business school, then you're pretty much toast regardless of SAT scores) then i can see u getting in there w/ great essays.

Hehe, yes I won't be going around saying that I will get a 2200+ (At least to people I know in real life) but I do hope that I can achieve it . I try to aim for the 2400 mark because I know if I try my hardest to get a perfect score, maybe I will fall short, but hopefully be somewhere in the 2200+ range.

I am not applying to the USC Business school, I want to do pre-med. Anywho, I really hope I can get into at LEAST the University of Rochester or the University of Wisconsin - Madison, USC or JHU would be great but not devastating if I didn't get in.

Thanks for the input flong

I will definitely post back here to see if the predictions are true reguarding my SAT scores and admissions.

Also to add: My school is the WEAKEST in the district of schools. Our district is the best in the state, but my school is the weakest in the district. We have the most students who are on free and reduced lunch, we have the LEAST computers out of the 6 schools in my district, we have a very DIVERSE student body - whites vs minorities is almost 50/50. Also we have the LOWEST AP scores in the district. Maybe this will help in my admissions.

AP test scores are what determine the ranking of a school. if urs is low, ur ranking is low. if ur ranking is low that means teh quality and education of ur school is poor (explains low AP scores). And its not like you're the hero of your school and uve risen above the education and done extremely well. 5 c's, 3.4. it looks more like u miscalculated what you could handle and made poor decisions, and unless uve 5'ed ur AP tests, uve shown them u r as good as the school's education. sorry to burst the bubble.

If my AP scores are low, how does that determine my ranking? Now I haven't done terrible on my AP exams, actually I have done rather decent. (3 5's , 2 4's and 1 3). How does my AP score make my ranking low (assuming if my AP scores were bad).

I know I miscalculated what I could handle and it was a calculated risk that I took - but thats besides the fact that most of the students that take these AP classes get 1's or 2's. Even people who only take 1 or 2 AP classes a year recieve 2's and 3's on the AP exam (These students have GPA's around 3.8 or 3.9). I mean, I took Calculus last year and I got 2 B's and 1 C in the class. I ended up getting a 5 on the exam, whereas students who had A's all 3 trimesters recieved a 3's or 4's. The reason for my grades being low is most likely due to the fact that I have ALL AP classes and most of the teachers at the school don't take that into consideration (They assume you are taking only 1 or 2) whereas I have 5.

All in all though - aren't AP scores self reported? So if I wanted to I could not report the 3 and just report the 4's and 5's.

i went from a 2010 to a 2150 (1380 to 1470 m+cr)... i improved my maths by 90 pts just by revisin for the sat 2 maths lvl 1 paper.

also, ur chances are avg. u seem like a totally average asian kid, nothing about u stands out.

thanks for all the input

average chances at schools like UR / UW-M / UW?

no no.............i doubt ur chances at wisconsin, rochester and washington are average, even if ur sat score falls within their MID range and not the higher ones, ur ECs will still make up for em........dont worry about ur stats for these schools................just submit a good essay..............and by the way......if we both end up goin to wisconsin (where im applyin by the way)...........cheers

Thanks for the input sniper. I really would love to go to any of those 3 schools. I might choose Wisconsin because I know some people who live relatively close to Madison, as opposed to Rochester (I live in Oregon so I'm really close to Washington).

Do you think I should apply ED II to Rochester? They won't see my Janurary 27th test date, and if I get in then studying for it would be a moot point (I would only use this SAT score from this test date for transfering). I would love to go to Rochester, but if I do happen to do well on the Jan. SAT and by some miracle get into JHU or USC I would rather go to one of those schools.

Actually I did make a mistake on this thread, my Community Service hours are around 360. I calculated the amount of hours ever since freshman year and it comes close to 360, not 200 like I said in the original post.

o and about ur question on my thread >>>>>> "UW - Madison safety??"

No I dont really consider wisconsin a safety simply because of the fact that it has a pretty amazing engineering department, and its a GREAT school overall, I just REALLY wanna go to my other top schools like JHU (which ur applyin to as well) UPenn and Cornell.........but i realize my chances are slim and thus I've made my peace with that {theres always the masters degree ;) } .

But im givin it one last shot at the JANuary SAT, i wanna bring my crit reading scores up >>>> any advice ?? 4 weeks to go and i still have georgia tech and U- mich to send off.....heh heh
