Last couple of weeks before GRE

Hey everyone-
I am signed up to take the GRE on the 18th of this month. I have been preparing and am also taking a Kaplan class. I'm wondering if anyone has any good hints for how best to maximize the time I have left study-wise.

If you're in the sciences, focus on the quantitative section. Very high quant scores are expected.

If you're in the humanities, focus on the verbal and writing sections. We don't care about quant.

If you have been practicing as much as you say you have, and if you have been taking a Kaplan course to boot, I am guessing you will be fine. The GRE doesn't deserve to be blown off, but it is not nearly as important as other standardized tests like the GMAT or LSAT. As such, I am guessing you will do well. As Prof X said, if you are going into humanities, make sure you have a great verbal score, and if you are going into sciences, make sure you have a great quant score. Basically no one expects you to have a 760 Verbal 800 Quant.

Thank you for the advice!

it sounds like you are doing more prep than D did,she worked from a book and online resource, no prep class. She did fine although was freaked out about the math as she had NONe in college (had tested out with HS AP).
The toughest part she said was getting used to doing the test on the computer,as you are conditioned to take standardized tests on paper.Try to do as much practice as possible on a computer under timed conditions.

That's a good idea cathymee, thank you. By the way, from the above posts regarding GRE score importance based on field of study, does anyone have any idea which section would be weighted more heavily in the minds of the program if I am interested in physical anthropology? I am slightly confused because it's not quite a science but not quite a social science (at least in my mind!)

Physical anthro is still anthro, so verbal and writing will matter most. However, since you'll be describing your preparation and suitability for physical anthro in your personal statement, the committee WILL care about your quant score, so shoot for over 700, but be happy in the high 600s. Shouldn't be too tough. You won't need an 800 like some engineering or math or other hard science programs.

Thank you very much Professor X!
