I have a few more auditions coming up (ultimately I am only auditioning at 4 schools which I know is absolutely cutting it close--Umiami, Loyola nola, duquesne (ugh,) and Otterbein.) I am happy with most of my choices, but I feel like I should have more schools because what if I don't get into them this year? I auditioned at 6 last year and got into only one. I'm feeling like maybe I should add at least one more school (I was thinking about the conservatories until I remember their stupid prescreening requirements haha.)

So I'm unsure. I mean, I'm still chukin forward, trying as hard as I can to ace these auditions, but I can only do so much ya know? What do you think?

Really???? Gee....I seem to remember you trying to choose between U of Miami and Tulane. That's TWO the way I count.

Re: adding a school...it's pretty late to be adding to schools that require auditions as many are winding DOWN their auditions by the end of this month or early March. You could look for a BA program whereby you could sing, but not have to audition.

What is your UGH by Duquesne? It's no secret that Duquesne is a school we actually LIKED a lot. Pittsburgh is a great city and very supportive of the arts. You could do a LOT worse.

Jeremy, did you ever look at Westminster Choir College - now part of Westminster School of the Arts at Rider U? They have 2 more audition dates for voice, and you can still submit your application to get into one of those dates: Friday, February 29, 2008; or Friday, March 7, 2008. Although it is too late for the theater auditions, Westminster College of the Arts - Rider University - Admissions
They have a lot of different options available once you are there. .

Ughittyyy hahahha. I have auditions on both of those dates. Boo hiss.
Well you know what, if all else fails, I'll just go to a college that i didn't get into musicaly but academically and just do somethign different. i'm hoping to god though that i do get in somewhere!

University of the Arts (Philly) has rolling admissions and a good music/jazz performance program. I know they have auditions going as late as March because my D was scheduled for March 1 (we withdrew her apps there and Miami once she got into Berklee).

UArts is my son's last audition March 29--their jazz program sounds fabulous. I was going to add that, but I'm glad PamelaMaeSnap did! They also have a very busy musical theatre program there.

We had never heard of UArts before this year and the college app process, and we are not that far from Philly ... while Berklee was far and away my DD's first choice because of its songwriting-specific curriculum, we were very intrigued by UArts once we looked into it and I think had she gotten in there and not at Berklee she would have been very happy to go there ... plus, while I'm not sure about the jazz scene there, Philly has a fantastic thriving singer-songwriter community which really appealed to her.

It's a cool city, the school seems to be in a good neighborhood and the housing situation looked good as well (this is a concern of mine as a mom with the city schools, even though -- or maybe because -- I grew up as a city girl).

JM, good luck to your son with his audition there and let me know what you think when you visit!!!

It's killing me (not my son) that we haven't seen this school yet. It's the only one he hasn't visited. It certainly has an instrumental jazz faculty to die for, with Jimmy Bruno and Pat Martino in the guitar line-up. Not sure if Pat Martino is actually there much, though, to be honest. Philadelphia is one of the best jazz scenes. They have 24 different jazz ensembles at UArts. But your daughter is in a great place for her particular interest, so good luck to her, too.

Regarding UArts in Philly, my D and I sang in the Xmas program with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops this past season and the choir was directed by Jeff Kern who is the department chair of vocal music at UArts. Great guy, outstanding director, and an amazing musician! If he's any indication of the level of instruction one gets at that school, I'd put it high on the list.

My D doesn't want to go to school in a large city and that's about all that knocked UArts off her list after working with Jeff.
