Last Minute Chance....DO I STAND A DECENT CHANCE AT DUKE

<p>I wanted to apply to Duke, but a second teachers evaluation was holding me back...but I realized that I go back to school on the day Duke's app has to be postmarked, so I could still apply...but DO I STAND A DECENT CHANCE AT DUKE (Trinity not Engineering)...i basically finished all my apps, and because Duke has an easy supplement and takes Common App, the application would only take mins...</p>

<p>my stats are below...
Took SAT 1 Once: got 2080
Took ACT once: 34 (Submitting this score)
SAT II: Math IIC:800, Chem:770 (submitting these for all SAT IIs required)</p>

<p>I have 4 APs (school only offers seven, and we only had 2 until this year, and I couldn't take AP Bio n Chem at same time)
AP US History-4
AP Chem
AP Literature and Composition
AP Calculus BC
All my other classes are all honors </p>

<p>My school has VERY FEW extracirruiculars (we are the 2nd graduating class), so I don't have many, I can't do many extracirruclars because my parents work from liek 8 am to 12 am, and I have to watch my two younger sisters...some are

Key Club Member
Math Team
Service
Science Fair </p>

Voted Math and Physics Scholar
AIME qualifier </p>

<p>GPA: Weighted: 3.8, Unweighted: 3.7...have great foward progress went for a 2.8 to a 3.9... </p>

<p>And if anyone knows what regents are, my regents avg is 93, got 99 on US History, 96 on physics (highest in school), 93 Math A and B, 95 Global History, 94 Eng Regents, all 90s+ except Spanish </p>

<p>I also have great recommendations, math and physics recs span 2 pages each, and my physics rec comes for a MIT and Princeton graduate, also awesome outside recs from a Texas Tech professor, and Tufts professor... I also think I have a good essay, my AP Eng teacher said so....</p>

<p>Your freshman grades will hurt you, but a 34 ACT is good. Duke acceptance rate will be higher than last year, so I would say try it, you might get in.</p>

<p>not many people have a greater than 50% chance to get into Duke. My stats were similar to yours and i got deferred ED and then rejected RD last year</p>

<p>EliHopeful07-no i won't be saying anything, but since Duke will accept outside recommendations, my Texas Tech professor rec. explains it fully, so I dont have too...
ckmets13-yea ur rite, i just dont want to pay more money, already dishes out a couple hundreds for college apps n test scores...</p>

<p>75 is alot if its for a rej...but its worth every penny if its an acceptance..so i gotta decide, plus im feeling really lazy, i finished all my apps, except 1, which is 75% done and due in a wk...</p>

<p>i spent about $1000 on college apps, got rejected/waitlisted from 8 schools, and id do the same thing again if i had the chance</p>

<p>no i had a higher WGPA than the OP, but his ACT is higher than my SAT. I had a similar upward trend, but I didnt start at a 2.9</p>

<p>yea...gpa is more important than sat/act...it's just said that some of us had to find out the hard way like myself =/</p>

<p>do not apply unless u still have time to write good essays for each...although essays will not get you into the school it will eliminate you if your essay is pathetic =D gl!</p>

<p>I didnt have a great GPA (i just say my rank because being from NY we do our GPAs out of 100 and you 4.0 people dont understand it), but i applied with a rank of 38/449 from a Long Island public school, and an SAT of 2180</p>

<p>darkhope-essay is written, doing common app, and duke doesn't require any xtra essay...spent wks on that essay, checked it with AP eng teacher...i know my gpa stinks, and its such a false indicator of my aptitude, theres to much bias and grade inflation with gpas...</p>
