Last Minute Decision: Drexel BS/MD v. USF Med

Like the thread title says, I'm deciding between Drexel's BS/MD program and the University of South Florida's Accelerated Medical program.

I'm out-of-state for USF, but the money really isn't an issue. I've never visited the campus, though, and am not quite sure that the spot is guarenteed.

I've visited Drexel, and though I love their medical school, their undergrad is so unappealing: ugly, seems to have a TON of unmotivated people. I've turned in my money for this, but I can turn in my money online for USF I decide to go.

So help, ASAP!

I am not a Drexel fan. It is a relatively poor college experience. Go with UF.

USF, not UF. UF would make this a whole different decision. If your sure you want to do med school do Drexel. It's hard to get into but if you're already in it's all chill.

Thanks for your help. I forgot to post my decision: Drexel. Yay!

good decision. bs/md > any B.S.

usf...are we talking about u of south florida, if you are then dont go there.

Thanks @ Mike99 and Fsu-uf for the vote of confidence. This board gave me the most non-biased advice.

What's wrong with USF? it is actually a Tier 1 research university has a med school, a physical therapy school, and is the 16th largest school in the country (more students than FSU). just because the sports teams are not on par with FSU/UF yet is not a reason to poo-pooh the school. By the way, the USF name recognition will do nothing but increase for years to come, as it just joined the Big East sports conference. It is truly a University on the rise.

USFs med school is extremely highly rated, I know of a few people from my high school that have been top of the class who have transferred from UF, FSU and Georgia Tech just to be part of the USF premed program. This is mainly becuase there is a huge cancer center and many hospitals in the area and they are building a new science center. Hope I helped some.

What tipped me into Drexel wasn't the "poor quality" of USF. I actually spoke to someone who went to Drexel for med school and now works at USF. He suggested I choose USF because it gets a lot of money for research and thought it was much better than Drexel.

What made me leery was the fact that only about 13% of 40,000 students lived on campus. It seemed like everyone there was a Florida resident, and I, as an out-of-stater, would not have the typical undergraduate experience, meeting people who were just as unfamiliar to the area as me.

Also, no one told me whether the USF accelerated program was absolutely guaranteed. I know exactly what I need to stay in Drexel's program; USF's requirements are little more unclear. I'm just making it clear--reputation had very little to do with it, because Drexel's med school is relatively new, just like USF.

5000 students on campus is a lot and the number is going up every year. The Moffit Cancer center at USF is top notch,
