i have a 3.0 and under the tag agreement for UCSD. I just got my first C (psych101 as a GE) in community college and a B in everything else. Now my gpa is like 2.8... i now need to get a **** load of As (before next fall) on top of taking calc2,3 and the physics tree. Transferring next fall is a must. What low unit courses would be easy gpa boosters? ie. Would taking 9 PE classes during summer make a noticeable difference in GPA?

You cant be serious. First of all, there are unit limits on PE classes. Second, how bout you just start applying urself cause if you are just dragging along at CC then UCSD probably isnt where you wanna go… Perhaps Cal State Dominguez Hills would better suit you.

If ur transferring to a new school for fall 2011 then I believe ur tag is now void.

If ur applying next fall then u better consider what you’re doing in school and start putting in serious work. cause C’s at jc is unnacceptable if u plan to go to UC

i don’t care about any IGETC. does the gpa for spring affect tag/acceptance?

If you’re planning on transferring for Fall 2011, your Fall 2010 grades are the last thing they’re going to see. It doesn’t matter what you do for Winter/Spring/Summer 2011 as long you pass the courses you indicated you were going to take because they are not going to take into account your GPA after Fall 2010 for your admission.

Thank you. It would be completely revoked if I had a 2.8 the end of fall 2010 semester, correct? What good is the Spring/Summer 2010 gpa then? Can they still deny you after they accepted you?

Yes your TAG is more than likely going to be revoked because you will have under a 3.0 GPA and you won’t meet that condition. As far as what good is your Spring/Summer gpa, for you it isn’t any good as they won’t see it until after they’ve either admitted or rejected you. You have to realize they have to set a reasonable time frame so that they can review all the applications in time. If they waited for applicants to complete their spring quarter/semester prior to making admission decisions, they wouldn’t have time to go over all the applications and get back to us before the Fall quarter started. It’s unrealistic. Think about it, it already takes them 4-5 months from December to March/April after you first submit the application to make a decision and get back to you. If they waited until June/July for an update of your grades from the spring quarter/semester they wouldn’t be able to get back to you until after the Fall quarter started. And yes they can still deny you after they’ve accepted you. For example, if you send over your transcripts and they find that your grades aren’t what you intially reported on your application then they would deny your admission.

they won’t take your spring/summer into consideration. have you thought about e-mailing your psych teacher and explaining your situation? they may be inclined to offer you some extra credit

Dude you got owned now you will have to stay another year. I in fact had a similar situation as you where I have a 2.96 uc gpa and got my TAG approved. so far I know I got three As this semester and possible a C or moslt likely a B. I took some easy classes I didn’t really need that are transferable just to make sure I hit the 3.0 mark feels good brah.

Don’t let these guys scare you. Everyone gets C’s at some point. In fact a lot of courses at my CCC are comparable or harder than UCSB’s equivalent courses. If you are applying for Fall 2011 you will have to wait one more year in order to bring up your GPA. You should finish your prereqs and take some fluff classes in order to boost your GPA. Any 101 class should be easy, but check ratemyprofessor.com before you take anything. Good luck!

Wow, what’s happening here. This broad used to be very supportive. I’m not feeling the rudeness here, not cool!

dude, same spot as you.I also feel the pressure to leave CC but if I want to transfer to a UC I must fullfilll their requirements.Looks like you’re going to stay another year(I mosty like will too unless Davis doesn’t change their TAG decision after thier approval).I say start planning for next Fall application. In my case,Im taking 3 easy classes in Winter and finish some pre-reqs in Spring. As strategy, finish those pre-reqs as much as possible in Winter/Spring/Summer so in Fall you can combine a few pre-reqs with some easy classes.good luck!

Unfortunately for the OP, dilapidatedmind is correct. Fall 2010 grades are the last grades UCs will see when making admission decisions. So if you have dropped below the 3.0gpa barrier, then yes, your TAG will be revoked and you will be considered only as a regular transfer student along with everyone else. considering your gpa it is unlikely you will be admitted as a regular transfer without the help of TAG.

One thing I wanted to clear up was the OPs post saying “What good is the Spring/Summer 2010 gpa then? Can they still deny you after they accepted you?”

I hate seeing posts like this because it happens all the time. The UC TAG letters sent out earlier this year were NOT acceptances!! They were merely saying that IF you follow these guidelines (including keeping your gpa above 3.0) THAN your TAG will be approved and you will be accepted! So often people recieve these and tell everyone “I got accepted!” only to ruin their fall semester, get their TAGs revoked, and stay another year at a CCC.

It turns out i’ve gotten an A in calculus so it cancels out. I am now back to a 3.0, but still waiting for my chem grades (most likely a B). To blkbox, I plan on asking her about this, i am 5 points away from a B, basically a 79.5%. I bet if I tell her that my TAG is going to get revoked because of 5 stupid points, she’ll change her mind.

@TonyPreMed2013: I did not mean the TAG acceptances, I mean the acceptance to the school. Can they still deny your admission if you fail to meet the requirements by Fall 2011?

@SMCguy: I like being a ■■■■■ magnet, thus why I made my OP so trollable :)

Thank you for everyone who answered. Nice to know a few people are also in the same boat as I am. Good luck to all of you!

I have another question, if I don’t get accepted for my major (Aerospace engineering-heavily impacted) or alt major (another impacted major), which will most likely happen, will they put me as undeclared? I’m thinking of staying another year to finish the pre-reqs for Computer science BS with minor in Business. is it possible if I cross enrolled to get a few classes done at UCSD (if I get accepted)?

If u do TAG and you don’t get accepted into your primary or alternate major, then they will give you a list of majors to choose from.

^ I don’t think that’s correct they do state if your major is impacted select a non impacted alt major. Ucs are not going to go through the trouble to give you a list to choose from. Correct me if I’m wrong but they will simply deny you if you do not have a competitive GPA

^Not if you have a 3.0 and if you are under the TAG agreement, in which case you are guaranteed admission, the major however is another story.
I think you’re allowed to switch to a major of your choice if they don’t accept your primary and alternate majors.
