Got the rainboots/raincoat and fan memo... what else would you suggest?? ( beyond the obvious?)
Thanks!!

Power strip, command hooks/strips and a few trash bags. For clothes that will be hung, keep them on hangers and put a trash bag over them, tying handles at the top. When you get to the dorm just hang the whole pile, remove the trash bag and voila - you’re done. If your dorm has a cubby over the closet, a small stepstool is handy. Have a safetrip and a great first year!

stbemtpynest, you have the best IU advise out there. As we prepare for our trip to Indiana, I feel like I need to say thank you!

Not for the long term…but for the day of move in, bring some granola bars/crackers/snacks and bottled water. I remember not eating anything from early breakfast until dinner because of the move in chaos.

Also, pack your patience campus is insane on move-in day, and stress runs high. Keep your cool, even when some parent cuts you off for the last parking spot, shuts the elevator door on you, or you almost accidentally turn the wrong way down a 1 way street

We bought each of our IU students an inexpensive stick vacuum. It didn’t get used a lot but they did appreciate it. I know others on the floor borrowed it at times.

IU often changes the routes for move-in week. Look at the IU orientation/First year website for information and directions for each dorm.

I don’t know if it’s “obvious,” but I recommend a small, cheap set of dishes and a few pieces of silverware along with a small bottle of dishsoap and dish cloth. I think I bought a few plastic plates and bowls at a dollar store or something similar. If they were lost it didn’t matter. My kids often liked to make breakfast (instant oatmeal or cereal) in their dorm rooms so this came in handy.

@ldavis, sent you a PM yesterday with some suggestions.

Thanks for the tips! We are moving her in on the 20th , ugh. Packing our patience. Good tip! Thanks for all of the other advice as well. Hope your kids all have a stellar year! Go Hoosiers!

Bring kleenex for your trip back home. I don’t know about you, but I suspect I’ll break out in tears multiple times.

Bedbug “encasement” and spray… ugh
