Last minutes applications

I am crying...because I sent in my columbia app 10 minutes late. Am i really not going to get looked?? My mom is screaming at me...I feel so upset :(

Don't worry, indiegal. I'm pretty sure that the adcoms won't hold a measly 10 minutes against you. As long as you submitted it with the application fee, I don't think 10 minutes will make a difference.

what about 23 for vanderbilt?? since it is central time there...i didn't really know when it was due...

indiegal, you should be fine, you are not yet past the deadline for the pst time zone.

even if you are late, i am pretty sure they will still consider you.

ahh thank u everyone...really comforting!

BUMP for TheDad

Uh, indiegal, et al?

I don't want to sound mean but... you guys've known about these deadlines for how long? And yet still had to push it to the wire?

Hopefully they'll accept the apps-- but for something this important isn't it worth being a week ahead? I am a procrastinator, too, but I am also a worst-case-scenario thinker, so I usually mentally back up deadlines by a week. If a Jan 1 deadline is treated as a Dec 25 deadline, then when you're done on the 27th or 28th you are still "ahead." And you have time to solve unexpected glitches, etc.

My S was such a procrastinator that I bought him a book called "Procrastination," an entertaining joke book. When I asked him recently if he had read it, he said he'd do it "tomorrow!"

I also bought him a piece of plastic in the shape of a circle. On the front was the caption "Roun To It." When I subsequently asked him if he had finished his college essays, he claimed.."When I get around to it." "Guess what?" I exclaimed. "You got ONE!"

I'm making a bunch of those to give out , Sgiovinc1!!

Oh, I have threatened my husband with a Round To It for years. Now I know how to make out.

My take on missed app deadlines is that they could be construed as predictors of missed essay and project deadlines at colleges. I also don't advise being late for job interviews.

Our HS's college counselors told us early in the year not to schedule any trips over the Dec. holidays this year, since our children would be busy finishing up their college apps. We had plans to visit our elderly and infirm parents (their grandparents) this year and had no intention of modifying that plan. I informed my S in Sept. that he was to complete his apps by Dec. 19th and anything not done by then would not be submitted. I reminded him in Nov., and he had his apps done before we left. We bascially moved the deadline up from Jan. 1 to Dec. 19 for him and held him to it. I recommend a similar approach for everyone: saves a lot of last-minute stress that way.

Bravo Mootmom!!

Bump for me...I've got to take D and a friend to lunch. Whups...is this the thread where editing is being discussed? If not, I'd like to start a thread out in the open instead of via PM unless there's a good reason not to.

Mootmom--Good for you! Did the same thing way back when with S who did a winter sport. Made him get everything done by Thanksgiving before practice began. It definitely helped to preserve our sanity. Tougher this time around--D played a fall sport.

Oh, Guinevere, I sent you a PM.

I had not looked at this thread before, as S was done with his apps. But I seem to have helped quite a few CC applicants with their essays, so I'd be interested in participating in the copy-editing thread.

marite -

I'm going to consolidate all the suggestions I've recieved tonight and PM everyone with the results - I will include you, too. I'm hoping that if we can come up with something reasonable, we can get a mod to tack it up at the top of College Admissions at least until this round of admissions essays are over. Off to work!

Hi Ohio_mom,

I have been mostly lurking because my computer is broken (using S's while he naps, to check email and get a CC fix) so I didn't contact you. I would love to see your list posted here too. If not, can you PM me as well? Thanks to you and all the others who got it done.

My friend submitted her app to MIT 4 seconds before the deadline.
