last semester gpa/conditional acceptance?

I've already been accepted to a good program, but I don't think I will be able to maintain my current GPA. I'm pretty sure I'm looking at a C in one of my required courses. If my gpa suddenly dips, will the school back out on the acceptance? I don't know whether or not this is a crazy question. My friend is planning to enter whatever field is necessary to become an epidemiologist; he had been "conditionally accepted" to a couple programs last year before deciding to do an extra year of undergrad and told me that if my GPA is not up to standards, I will be looking at the same thing. I don't even know what the hell a "conditional acceptance" means lol.

(Specifically speaking, for the last 3 semesters I've had 3.2, 3.6, and 3.8 respectively but this semester I'll be lucky to have a 3.0 the way it's looking now)

Is it even possible for a school to change its mind after initial admittance?

A conditional acceptance is common. It just means that the school accepts you - granted you maintain whatever level they want to see you at. If you don’t keep the GPA or get a certain grade in a certain class they may take away your offer.

Do you have to be INITIALLY accepted on a conditional basis? Or can they change their mind later? I don’t understand how it would work if the offer changes after the fact… I mean, I won’t be doing any more undergrad work between graduation and next fall, so I have a hard time seeing what, if I were to only be admitted conditionally, I would have to do during that time to improve. (idk if i explained that clearly)

At this point I haven’t even received the formal paperwork for my acceptance anyway. I got a phone call from the admissions office to deliver the news. But she didn’t mention anything about something I’d have to do between now and the fall to maintain their acceptance.

Yes, your official offer should specify what, if any, conditions you have to fulfill before matriculation.

You won’t be applying after graduation. You’ll be applying during the Fall semester of senior year, so the condition is on Fall semester grades and Spring semester grades. It’s usually conditional on an overall graduation GPA or a grade in a specific class.

I’ve also seen Conditional Acceptances dependent on standardized test scores. That usually happens when an international student doesn’t have a TOEFL score or when a school wants to see an additional score to prove some competency.

Also, keep in mind that EVERY admission in conditional to some degree. If you don’t graduate, switch majors, get arrested, get convicted of academic misconduct, etc, you might have your offer pulled.
