last time asking

how many classes for summer seems reasonable?

there are two sessions, can you explain what the most common way of filling these sessions are (i see it as first half 1st sessions around 2 classes ad you finish them, then 2nd session another 2 classes and finish them...is that correct?)

i need to put down a couple classes but i dont know what to put and how many to put!

i want a good amount of classes to do perfect in, so whats the most i can handle?

also, would it be wise to take english or math in the summer? would a uc prefer to see it in the fall (or if im going to take honors should i hold off englih for the year?)

the only classes i can think of taking is prerequisites on my major or some random breadth such as social sciences or arts

also, would a uc like it more if you took math in the summer so you can finish at a higher level?

please help i dont know if i should take random easy classes or harder ones that will get me into a better level in the fall (like if im in pre-calc ill start fall with calc instead)
IIIIIIIIIIIIII
VVVVVVVV

i just called a counsoler and she said you can take 6 units each session (about 2 classes each) and that it is tough to do that and she suggested i took 3 units each, and that math is not a good idea and english would be better during the fall, and that i should not take prereq. but start on for of the breath coruses such as poli sci...do you guys agree?

Reasonably, you can take a maximum of two courses per sessions due to time restraints. Last summer I took two courses per session, the first being from 9-3, and the second being from 6:30-9:30, both being Monday-Thursday.

Remember Collegekid101, that the summer classes are condensed classes. So expect to have a lot of work to do...and try not to take sciences or languages during summer...oh man, they're a headache.

I took an English class during the summer and got into some UC's, so there's no difference if you take it during the fall. As for math, it shouldn't make a difference if you finish at a higher level, as long as you fulfill the IGETC requirement, unless a higher math is required for your major work at a UC.

okay i am thinking about taking 3 units in the 1st session to get an idea of it, and then decided if i will take 6 the 2nd session

well for haas i want to take political science my first session (seems like a simple class to take) and second semester i can't really decide what i would like, maybe art 101 (what is it like? is it hard?) or philosophy along with sociology? i don't know im just pretty sure ill take poli sci

Art 101 will be easy, and so will Sociology 101. Taking philosophy was annoying at first, but eventually it becomes easier as you transition into it. But taking it as a summer class...might be challenging. Make sure you read up on the professor who will teach the class, by checking him/her on ratemyprofessors.com

90% im taking only philosophy first session, professor sounds great and they siad its not the easiest class but i think it wont be a problem if i study...second semester i was thinking poli sci but they are saying th prof is very stif and strict on policy and that there are a lot of essays like an english class so im not sure

1ST SESSION- Philosophy
2ND- Sociology and ???

Are you trying to complete the IGETC? If not, what courses do you need to take?

i need what ever it takes to get into haas, so im going on assist and for example it says 3 courses for social science do then i have this other sheet called the general education trasnfer curriculum which shows each area such as social science and has like anthro, econ, ethnic, geography, hist, and i choose what ever is reasonable...hopefully thats how it is

If you can take an easy course over summer and still complete all the prereqs, do that.

If you need to take a hard course to get all of them done, do that.

Don't jeopardize your gpa if you don't have to

I agree with mattn, don't try to overdo it during the summer session just to try and get ahead at the risk of your GPA. You see, I'm probably in the same boat as you; I'm planning to apply to Haas and am just going to start on a few courses this summer. I may take Chem (tough, I know) and possibly something easy that still fulfills IGETC and/or Breadth like poli sci.

I took 13 units (4 classes) last summer and got all A's. Two of the classes were online. I'd say I worked on them up to 80/hrs a week. Maybe that's part of the reason why I got into Haas?

Woah... you spent 80 hrs/week outside of class to study for 4 classes? What classes did you typically take during the Spring/Fall?
