last time. chance me please.

I added a couple of schools to the list of places where I'm going to apply and next week I'm visiting a few schools too.

GPA: freshman and sophomore year- UW 3.8 W 4.1
junior year- UW 4.0 W 4.5
SAT: 1940
cr- 720
w- 630 (will improve in october, hopefull at least high 600's or low 700's)
m- 590 (will also improve, but I doubt higher than a 650)
ACT composite: 28 (also retaking, hopefully a 30+)
No SAT II's yet, but I'm taking U.S. history, Lit, and World History.

Rank: 30/280 (It's not that good because my school doesn't weight classes until our junior year... so basically be have kids in the top 5% of our class who are taking applied classes.)

Extra Curriculars:
President and founder of the Young Democrats Club
long time member of the Diversity Club (I will probably have a leadership position next year)
newspaper contributor
literary magazine staff (I also submit my work.)
varsity tennis team
volunteer all the time at church
volunteer at the library twice a week (10 hrs. a week approx)
College Misericordia Diversity Camp
I'm also heavily involved in the Obama campaign.
I organized a voter registration drive at my school.

Awards and Achievments:
2nd place in a poetry slam (sophomore year)
honorable mention in a poetry slam (junior year)
ambassador for change (it went along with the diversity camp thing)
member of the national honor society
AP scholar
High Honor roll (every quarter freshman and sophomore year)
Principal's Honor roll (every quarter junior year)
I can't think of anything else at the moment... but my EC's are going to be pretty strong once I compile an organized list and figure out what's the most important.

Summer Activities:
volunteering at the library
I also took 2 college courses at wilkes univeristy:
Pschology (I got a 4.0)
Governments of the World (4.0 as well)

Honestly my courseload wasn't that challenging compared to other CCer's, but my school only offers 2 AP courses and no honors courses, but I'll list some notable classes that I will finish by my junior year.
Advanced Algebra II
Advanced Geometry
AP European History
AP Spanish
Physics
Economics
Precalculus (at wilkes university)
Calculus I (wilkes university)
Composition (wilkes)
American Lit (wilkes)

AP grades:
euro- 3
us- 3
gov't and politics- 4
Not so great, but two I self studied for.

My essay will be very good. Not to sound cocky, but I'm a pretty good writer and I've had some unique life experiences to say the least.
Rec's will also be very good. I'm getting one from on of the college professors I had during my summer courses. He's head of the political science program and I want to major in political science.

here are the schools:
american university
george washington university
villanova
bryn mawr
saint joseph's
bucknell (it's a reach i know, but i'll definately get my scores up)
college of the holy cross
emerson
BU
Bates (I'm visiting next week)
Northeastern
Fordham
Dickinson College

Also if you could suggest some east coast schools that you think would be a good match for me, I would really appreciate it. I want to major in political science and international affairs.

bump......

Hey Claire1016, I'd like to help you out, but I'm really not that familiar with most of the schools your interested in. However, I'll help break down your stats.

-GPA: Very good and even better with uphill trend
-Class rank: Very good
-SAT: Good but not great
-ECs: AMAZING
-Summer activities: will help you out more

-American U: Match
-George Washington U: Match
-Villanova: Reach (SATs on lower range)
-BU: Slight reach (SATs)

Thankyou for the help, I really do need to work on those scores. American is one of my top choices, I'd be ectastic to get in there.

I think you've got a good shot at Dickinson. Your SATs aren't low for it or anything. And if I'm good for GWU, then you are too. Same goes for American. Bucknell, yeah, it's a reach, but you know that. You'll probably want to get math higher for Northeastern, too. Don't really know about the others.

But anyway, you do have awesome EC's...that's definitely gonna help. You don't hear much about schools that don't offer honors. That sucks that there are only 2 APs. My school doesn't offer a lot that I definitely would take (like Euro History, Chemistry, Psychology, etc).

Haha, sorry, I'm pretty bad at chancing.

I just hope admissions people understand that it wasn't like I chose not to take hard classes. There are so many AP I would love to take, like Psychology, any type of English, Bio, economics. I'll definately work on the math.. it's always been my weakest.

Oh, yeah, they'll understand, I'm sure. Don't they look at what your school offers and go by that? Plus, since you self studied for two of the AP tests and didn't bomb them, the admissions folks with think you've got initiative.

It'll probably benefit you more at the smaller schools, like Dickinson, I'm guessing.

bump! more opinions please :)

just make sure whoever reads your application likes obama, lol.

bump, I need more suggestions for match/safety schools.

Claire: I attend Holy Cross and amd familiar with most of the schools on your list. I think that you are a very strong match for all. Your SATs are not that bad and you can take them again to raise them slightly.

Fordham is a nice school.... Beware that GW is expensive and that results in a lot of debt for its grads...

Jimmymac2010: I figured Holy Cross was a match for me based on average SAT scores, plus I visited recently and really liked it, but I'm a little intimidated by that 30% acceptance rate.

Orbit196: I wasn't aware that GW was so pricey. Affordability is a big factor for me... so I'll have to check that out.

Yes but the average GPA for admitted candidates at Holy Cross is around 3.7 so you should be in good shape. Plus 65% are in the top 10% of the class so you are also looking good for that. You should be a shoo-in based on your stats.

That's good to hear. When I visited I got a really good vibe.

If anyone else would like to chance me, I'd be happy to chance them as well :)

bump (10 char)

As a current Bucknell student, I will say that Bucknell is very selective. Of the class of 2012 less than 30% of the students that applied actually were admitted. However you may have a better shot than you think. I don't know if your GPA is based on a 5 or 4 scale but if it is a 4 scale then you are in really good shape. The median SAT score for CR was 630-720 and for math it was 660-740. 25% of the accepted applicants scored less than a 630 on that section. If you are really interested in Bucknell, and want to try it out for a day, you can spend a night and day with a host student and attend his or her classes. If you decide to do that you can also be interviewed by admissions. While this isn't crucial for admission, it helps them get to know you in a way that cannot be done in an essay. If you have any more questions about Bucknell feel free to ask. Regardless of where you end up, I wish the best of luck to you.
