I filled the first 4 positions already but I can’t decide which to put as my 5th.
I am between
University of Exeter,
University of York,
Royal Holloway,
University of Newcastle,
University of Nottingham
Also, if this helps, my current scores include ACT 31, SAT II’s with 700 and 660 with a predicted 700+ in October Chemistry SAT II.
Which is the best for Psychology?
In terms of town? I have been to London + London suburbs and York.
Also which would I most likely get into?
I can’t decide, any advice?
Just replied to your other thread, asking which subject., not having seen this thread.
Your fifth choice really needs to be a safety (unless you’ve accounted for that with one of nos. 1-4, or have a solid fallback in the US). These are all good universities, but the corollary to that is none is a slam-dunk for admission.
I like York, but do you have safeties in the US?
I already have set aside two schools as safeties.
What kind of environment do you want? Citywise I’d put Nottingham last. Royal Holloway’s a more rural situation. York has a nice campus a litle bit out of the city centre, but with good connections by bus.
The others all have good points, but it depends what kind of environment you want.
Just for interest, where else are you applying?
I’ve been to York and know how it is. I am not looking for a large city since I am already coming from a big city (NYC) and am sort of tired of it. In terms of UCAS schools, Edinburgh (my goal), Aberdeen, Cardiff, maybe St. Andrews. I have two safety schools outside of UCAS. I am considering switching out St. Andrews with another school. I am looking more for which would be the best in terms of research.
As an undergraduate you likely won’t be involved in research in a UK university.
I would politely disagree with that, MYOS1634. Most UK degrees specifically require some kind of original research as part of the degree, quite apart from any additional opportunities which may be on offer.
OP needs to look closely at the course descriptions to see if they are right for him/her. I’d suggest googling something like ‘undergraduate research project [name of one of the unis]’ and see what that brings up.
If you don’t want a big city I’d cut out Newcastle as well as Nottingham.
Thank you Conformist1688. I saw that many courses do have a “research” component to them.
I apologize - I was thinking of the traditional process of helping in a lab/a professor -> attend or present at a conference alongside first/second authors -> design our own project with mentorship -> present at undergraduate conference -> publish.
You’re absolutely right that most of the third year is dedicated to writing a substantial paper or thesis.
