so...i'm submitting my application today (11/29). sorry, it's disappointing. will that lower my chances in any way? i don't think it would since i heard ucsd is even lowering the required admit points, so more people will be accepted. just wondering what you guys think. thanks.

Not at all. As long as you have it in before the deadline it will be treated just like every other application.

No, the UCs don't care when you send it in since they don't do the rolling admissions thing. Why else would the server be crashy for the last two days xP

Where did you hear that UCSD is lowering the admit points?

^Yeah, I wanna know too. Some people say they're raising their standards..some people say they're lowering it...

wait, so why are they crashy the last couple days?

Yes. And I seriously doubt they're lowering their standards. From the unofficial website to calculate UCSD points to last year's point cutoff, there was a very noticeable increase (according to the unofficial points system, one can no longer be accepted with a perfect GPA and perfect SATs pointswise), and college is likely only going to get harder and harder to get into, unless you're doubting the caliber of the c/o 2012.

^ dude, c/o 2011 >>>>>>>>>>>> c/o 2012. thats a fact...

^Word

I submitted my application minutes before the deadline. I was admitted. Take that for what it's worth.

I would imagine the point cutoff will keep increasing as the number of college applicants keep increasing.

The number of applicants will probably not keep increasing though. There was a baby boom for a few years and you kids are unfortunately a part of it.

Does anyone know the approximate cutoff point for last year?

I think something like 7568

From what I've read, the baby boom echo is at its peak this year, and will wind down until 2012 and then dip further.

one of the students in the ucsd forum said he was talking to an admissions counselor (?) and that person said the point cut off will be dropped to 7505. last year 21k got admitted but only 4.5k enrolled. the admit rate is at a high 49% compared to the earlier years at 42%

That was 2006 data. I remember last year being 40% or something. I honestly don't see how they know where to drop the point cutoff to right now since I was under the impression that they did that AFTER they totaled the scores from all the apps. The matriculation rate for UCSD is constant, and pretty common among UCs, so don't expect it to get easier to get in just because only 20% of people accepted actually go, since they probably have an idea of where that number stands ahead of time.
