Hi, I am a High school senior who didn't really take school seriously. I come from a very good high school but I just never felt like I needed to get A's. My high school GPA is like 3.2. This year I took my first AP and I absolutly love it. And because of some great teachers I have this year, and my first trip outside of the country, my work ethic has completly changed. I started changing near the end of last semester and my GPA was 3.5-3.75(weighted). The problem is I want to go somewhere I can be challenged and become prepared for medical school but my parents have like no money for a public let alone a private. My big idea was to do two years at a california community college honors program and transfer to one of the better U.C's. The problem is it turns out that no matter which community college I go to I'll pretty much be surrounded by people who didn't pass high school and could care less about graduating.I was really glad when I found College of the Redwoods which offers on campus housing and an honors program, but it turns out its hard to get your classes and lots of people had to take some general ed courses at other schools to be able to transfer. I guess I don't know what I'm asking for, maybe suggestions?

I wouldn't judge the CC people so quickly. You'll find many of the same less motivated people on many college campuses as well. Besides, what matters is what you do, not how well (or poorly) everyone else performs.

If CC is the best option, then go with it and do your best. It's not going to disadvantage you too much if you do well and transfer into a good school. Just remember that certain medical schools will not accept pre-reqs from a CC.

Best of luck :)

PS: Honors Programs are quite difficult. I myself am dropping out of my school's program since it's affecting my performance in other classes. Just aheads up, since it's another notch up from AP in HS.

I don't know where you live, but some of the cal CCs are very good.
Check out Santa Monica City College and El Camino College. I
(I've taken a class at one recently, and it's not a piece of cake - and I have a M.A. from a UC.)
It sounds like the honors CC route would be a good choice. You will have no trouble transferring into UCLA or USC from either of these schools if you do well. I know there are others up and down the state with equally good reputations. Good luck!

And you will be surprised at the caliber of kids you meet at these schools - many are bright but looking for a less expensive route, like yourself.

How do you know people who go to ccc didn't gradute highschool or care about their futures? It is that sort of elitist attitute against people trying to better thier lives that makes it harder for them in their journey. Although there are people who fit your description of not graduating highschool and not caring, you will not be surrounded by them with the classes you are planning to take.
