Dear friends,

I'd like to ask a question about commencement, please. I am a senior in my last semester, and am dumb enough to not purchase the ticket for the general commencement. I read the site and thought that I'd be able to purchase the ticket on site under general admission, but that's unfortunately not the case.

Have anybody experienced this before? Or would you happen to know what should I do at this moment? I am planning to go to the registrar office tomorrow and ask if it would still be possible to purchase a ticket.

Thanks.

It stated in a email that “TODAY, April 30 is the last day to purchase a graduate ticket to participate in the campus-wide Commencement ceremony. Please purchase tickets on the Commencement website. Graduate tickets will not be sold after the 30th. All graduates need a ticket to participate in the ceremony”

There’s a high chance you won’t be able to get into the commencement, but try to ask the commencement group https://commencement.berkeley.edu/contact

If they say no, try to buy it from someone that has one but decided not to go. Important thing to note is that your name will also not show up on the commencement brochure.

totalcaprice,

I did not receive the email, unfortunately; although I know I should have checked the commencement website more thoroughly. Would you happen to know the best way to find someone who purchased the ticket and decided to not go?

I have read that selling a purchased ticket is not allowed and due to that reason, it should be difficult to find ‘that’ person in social media.

Thank you for your reply and suggestions, I really appreciate it.

Have a good evening

first, just try to double check with the commencement people to see if they are selling any tickets. The online ticket purchase system is only selling the general admissions tickets so you might be out of luck…

Plan B would be to just ask Facebook (up to you but maybe your fb status…or ask friends) if anyone wants to sell their ticket? I mean it’s not “allowed”, but for example, people still do sell their bus stickers to other people. As long as you do it quietly, I don’t think it is a big deal, but yes it is technically “against the rules”. The other thing would be whether they would check your ID card to the ticket name or anything. I decided not to attend general commencement, so I don’t know anything about that unfortunately.

if the two options yield no results, i guess the good news is that you don’t have to wait for couple of hours in the sun! and it’s just nancy pelosi anyways…not like she’s a bad commencement speaker, but she lives in SF, so wouldn’t be too hard to find her in the area haha…

totalcaprice,

I just emailed the commencement committee, and they say it’s too late. hahaha. they encourage me to purchase it from someone who doesn’t wish to attend though, so it makes me easier to just go to social media and ask whether someone is not planning to attend.

Thank you very much for your encouragement, totalcaprice, I really appreciate it. Would you happen to graduate this semester by any chance?

Yep! graduating this semester as well, but I decided to only attend my major graduation.
