My first two years of high school I had a 2.4 gpa and could not focus or do my homework or anything like that. I was diagnosed at the start of my junior year with adhd which explained a ton about my low marks and then put on medication. My grades went from very very poor to very very high on the medication, even with my tough schedule.

My schedule for my first two years was all honors and 1 AP U.S. History class and are the hardest offered at my school. My junior and senior year schedules are listed below and are very rigorous as well. My gpa shot up from a 2.4 to a 2.9 because i had a 3.88 gpa for my junior year. I'm just wondering what colleges are going to think when they see I went almost straight C's and B's my first two years and then was diagnosed and went to all a's except 1 class. I'm applying engineering and all my schools are listed below.

I also sent the doctor's letter, my letter, and the tester's letter to each school explaining the situation in detail.

I’m thinking it might be more of a problem at the larger universities where they can’t give as much time to your application, but the thing is, college admissions people are humans too. If they see that you have a (very legitimate) extenuating circumstance explaining your less-than-stellar performance your first two years, i have a hard time believing it’ll count against you too much.

Cornell and vanderbilt are probably reaches because of your SATs and just because of their applicant pool, and possibly CMU too. for the rest, i think you’d be fine.

Thanks, I’m not sending the SAT I’s anywhere though. Didn’t like the SAT’s at all.

Good call. my eyes went right over your ACT scores, since in my area people rely pretty exclusively on SATs, but that makes a lot of sense.

It is definatley tough trying to rate scnearios like these, but, I think in the end it might be the deciding factor when you get to the tougher schools on this list. The athletics for ECs are nice, but the lack of anything else might be disconcerting, and, on top of that, there aren’t a significant amount of community service hours. That being said your schedule is rigorous and junior and senior year seem to have gone well for you. So, I’ll get crackin’:

Ohio State - Match
NYU-Poly (Dean’s App) - I’m not familiar with it
Clemson - Match
Cornell University (Early Decision) - Mid Reach
Case Western (EA) - Low/Mid Reach
Uni of South Carolina (EA) - In/Low Match
North Carolina State (EA) - Low Match
Boston U - High Match/Low Reach
Emory at Oxford College (EA) - High Match
Emory at Emory College - Low Reach
Fordham (EA) (Priority App) - Not Familiar with it
Vanderbilt - Mid Reach
Furman - High Match
Carnegie Mellon - Mid Reach

Hope I was of some help, and, if you find the time, a chance back would be much appreciated: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/806870-senior-worried-about-chances-top-southern-schools.html

Thanks, chanced back.

Hey, like you mentioned yourself, show off only your ACT scores haha. I mean, they’re killer! I’m kind of incredibly jealous. Commenting on schools not commented on yet: I attend NYU-Poly. I think you could be a match. Congrats on receiving the Dean’s Ap btw. My friend goes to Fordham. It’s kind of hard to get in, so it may be a slight reach, even with consideration to your ADHD diagnosis.

You seem like you’re on the right track though, in general…a solid applicant. Good luck!
