Hi,
My fafsa was completed and submitted on time but I added NYU and the UCs a little late and for some reason they have not processed these documents and when I view the aid portion of my application nothing really comes up for NYU besides a "not awarded yet" note. The UCs are a little more direct saying they have not received it.

For my CSS my noncustodial parent took a long time to file his taxes so that form, which is required for NYU was not submitted on time delaying the completion.

My mom called CSS and they said it should not be a problem, and for the fafsa we are going to call ASAP to get it sorted out. The issue is that I know NYU is hard to get aid for, and it is obviously a big part of my decision between UCSD and NYU. I prefer NYU and would love to go there but I need something from the school to make a plan about tuition otherwise I am priced out. Also I am a California resident so UCSD is much cheaper. The core of my question is basically if NYU will accept any late forms.

Thanks!

No…the core of your question is if NYU will award you enough money with a late application. The Profile folks can’t answer that question. The FAFSA folks can’t answer that question.

There is NO WAY that the Profile folks can tell you if this is a “problem” in terms of NYU awarding you aid.

There is NO WAY the FAFSA folks can tell you if this is an issue in terms of aid from NYU.

You need to ask NYU what your late application will mean in terms of financial aid. Only NYU can answer that question.

Good that you have an affordable option other than NYU.

Thanks for the response thumper1 and leading me towards asking NYU directly. I was just wondering if I could get a quick response regarding if they even except late documents at all, which is what I was stressing over. The “enough” part is dependent on two many factors for this forum to help with.

Schools have their own policies about missed deadlines, missing documents and how important it is to be towards the front of the line with early compliance with all the required paperwork for financial aid. Some schools will specifically say that in order to get certain grants or guarantee of getting full need met, one HAS to meet the deadlines as specified. With some school, there is leeway. With many, it just all depends on what’s left in any given year. So you do have to ask each school’s financial aid office what the ramifications are with missed deadlines and any problems that made you late in application.

Neither NYU nor UCSD are schools that guarantee to meet need. I believe that there deadlines for certain state monies that CA residents can get, and you might want to see if you missed out on them, or can do anything to increase your chances for those awards, or maybe you are fine and are getting the money already. NYU, it all depends. What they have left and whether they feel like giving you any of it, whether your stats are such that they will meet your need. Only the schools can tell you specifically what the situation is for you. As Thumper so states, it has nothing to do with FAFSA or PROFILE; neither gives out any money. They just process the numbers.

Awesome responses everyone!! big help
