Late financial aid forms

I am applying early decision to Lehigh University and my parents forgot to send in their tax returns. They were due the 15th of November and they will not be able to send them until the 19th of November.

Will that hurt my chances at acceptance or financial aid?

Umm…call Lehigh.

i did. the lady sounded annoyed but didnt say anything.

You say they forgot but then you say they wont be able to send them till the 19th.
You mean they didn’t have them available?
Your aid package probably wont be finalized anyway until they receive 2013 numbers, and all you can do is make the info available as soon as you can, so it wont help to fret.

Call the school again and don’t hang up until you get an answer.

i just sent the information but when i went to visit they said that financial aid department has no interaction with the admissions department

It shouldn’t affect acceptance, it may affect you getting an accurate FA estimate, if the taxes are way different than was expected.

Your admission will not be affected. However, Lehigh might not get your financial aid package done in time to send with your ED acceptance…should you get accepted…and THAT could cause you issues.

Just make sure that ALL of what Lehigh wants gets sent ASAP.

When you call…your question should be “our financial aid application materials were not sent until November 19. I applied ED. If I am accepted, will I receive a financial aid award with my ED acceptance.”

And just in case you don’t get accepted ED…make sure you check the other deadlines for your other schools…and DO NOT MISS THEM.

" I did. the lady sounded annoyed but didnt say anything."

What the heck do you mean. Did she just tsk tsk, or make grunting noises? Did she say she did not know? What did you say, what did you ask?

It depends upon the school and the decision maker at Admissions as to what will happen. If there is a policy there to just move ED acceptances to those who asked for Fin aid but did not get the info there in time to process the package to RD, then that’s what will happen. If you get an acceptance without a package, you’ll have to call and ask Admissions what to do next, as you cannot honor your commitment without knowing if you can afford it.

As THumper says, it’s important to make those deadlines, because certain aid is gone early and those who miss the deadline can get gapped. THey just don’t get money they would have gotten had the paperwork been in on time.
