Hey everyone. My EFC is 0, and I'm just now getting in verification forms and 06 tax returns for several of my schools. I filed the FAFSA and Profile on time, but due to serious family problems between then and now, verification forms and 06 returns didn't happen until now. In fact, we only filed taxes about a week ago. I need aid, but I'm afraid that no offers will come in before that firm May 1 reply deadline.
I really need to see my financial aid offers before I send in a deposit anywhere.
Anyone ever been in a similar situation? How did it turn out? Did the schools just not even look at my FAFSA just because of these two forms being so late? So would that jeopardize my financial aid? I 'm explaining the situation to the schools, but I'm afraid that less than a month to May 1, there might not be much they can do now either to get my fin. aid package to me on time and to meet my need.
Anyone have any insight into my situation? Any insight would be much appreciated, especially if this or similar has happened to you or someone you know.

Call the finaid departments at the schools to which you applied. It is not possible for anyone here to know with certainty what they will do. Some schools do not process anything without all of their required forms (and if the tax forms were part of the required forms, those would be required too). Other schools will give an estimated finaid award but will not finalize it until all the documentation is in. The one thing everyone needs to be aware of is DEADLINES. If you miss the deadlines or apply late, your chances of getting financial aid are going to be jeopardized almost everywhere...and this is the same from year to year to year. NOT new this year. The schools are very up front about what they need and when. It is the student's obligation to fulfil that. Now...if you have an extenuating circumstance, you will need to call them and explain it. Good luck to you.
