So I will be a sophomore at a UC in 2009-2010. And unfortunately because I was not able to return home because of commitments I have here on campus, I was never able to get my GPA verified by my high school before the march 2nd deadline for the cal grant.

I am considering filing a late gpa verification form but my only excuse is that I could not physically be at my high school. Will they even accept that excuse? Is there even a point?

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks!

We have the same problem. My son is a freshman at UCSD and apparently got an email from them stating that since he didn’t yet have enough credits from college he would need to get a GPA verification from high school. Unfortunately he never informed us of this email when we submitted FAFSA ontime and consequently got another email from student support at CSAC telling us we could try for a Late Cal Grant GPA verification. We need to put a reason for not filing… any suggestions on what to write other than our son was being a “dopey college student” and forgot?!? He too goes to school farther away from home (high school) but is coming home this weekend and will be able to fill out forms. We have until the 18th of May to send it in. What would be a valid reason??? Thanks!

State regulations allow Entitlement Cal Grant applicants to appeal the late submission of their Cal Grant GPA if circumstances beyond their control delayed or prevented the applicant from submitting a verified Cal Grant GPA by the March 2, 2009 filing deadline. To receive appeal consideration, the applicant must submit an explanation of the circumstances that were beyond their control which prevented them from submitting an on-time Cal Grant GPA. The applicant must also have submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the March 2 deadline. There is a May 18, 2009 receipt due date for all such appeals.

Schools may also submit late GPAs on behalf of students. The school’s appeal should make it clear there were circumstances beyond the student’s control preventing the student from meeting the March 2 filing deadline.

Late GPA Verification Form
Entitlement applicants may submit a late March 2 GPA on the Late Cal Grant GPA Verification Form. The form is only for Entitlement Cal Grant applicants who filed a FAFSA by the March 2, 2009 deadline, but for whom their GPA was not sent due to circumstances beyond the student’s control.
This form is available online at [California Student Aid Commission - Cal Grant GPA Requirement](http://www.csac.ca.gov/doc.asp?id=1177).

For my reason, my high school counselor put in my weighted GPA, so it was invalid. I don’t know if they’ll accept that reason though. Anyway, I turned in my late GPA verification form on April 24, but the website still says they didn’t receive it. When do you think they’ll receive it or should I send in another one? Should I be worried?

The Commission will begin processing Late GPA’s on May 19, 2009. You will not see on your application status screen ““GPA Verification Recieved”” until after.

How does a high school counselor screw up like that, putting weighted GPA’s? Of course they should accept that reason…

Was the counselor fired? Or what happened?

I also had to fill a late gpa form. I put that for some reasons, my gpa was not received by the CSAC even though I checked with my counselor and she said that everyone’s gpa will be sent electronically… will my appeal go through… i’m worried cuz this is my only hope of getting any financial aid. Should I tell my school to submit another form for me but this time they can explain that it was beyond student’s control… and how would they send this… sorry for many questions

There will be all kinds of reasons that could cause your GPA Verification not recieved.

Reasons the Commission may not have your GPA verified
It may have never been mailed, got lost or detroyed in the mail, was submitted with errors or maybe your SSN was wrong, transposed or question on the form was left blank, maybe it wasn’t signed by the student or the school, perhaps the school dousnt know their correct school code. Maybe somebody else at one time or another accidently used the wrong social security and it happened to be yours?

Your GPA may have been recieved by the commission, but for whatever reason they couldn’t process it.

Schools are trying to help you, but sometimes make mistakes and calculating your GPA into a Cal Grant GPA, which sometimes can be a little confusing.

Schools have a special “School Support” number they can call at the Commission.

If your a student, dont call that number, because they wont be able to help you.

If your school is involved with helping you and contacting the commission with or for you, things will go alot better.

I turned in a late gpa verification form, when should it appear on the website?

I hope I’m wrong for all the posters on this thread, but you might want to check on the status of Cal grants in general, since the Terminator (uh, Governor) is planning to slash these as part of the budget balancing exercise. Talk about eating your seed corn.

Do you know if they’ve processed all late gpa verification forms?

FindAPlace is right. Your telling the truth and not to just freak people out.

It really is not looking good for State Aid programs in general and the Commission and Cal Grants heads are discussed over and over to be on the chopping block.

The Cal Grant program may halt altogether.

All the Late GPA’s may never get processed. In fact those with Cal Grant offers may have them rescinded by the State Legislature if they decide to kill the Cal Grant.

I called the calgrant staff today and the person on the other line said that late gpa verifications would be processed in about 4-6 weeks from today.

Has anyone got their late gpa verification processed? And how did you find out?.. i’m getting worried.
