My son is finishing his Freshman year and had plans to live off campus with someone else, but these plans recently fell through. He decided to live on campus again next year, but when he contacted RPS he was told assignments were already made for next year in Tulip Tree and Campus View, which were his top choices. They said he could only get in if someone invited him to live in an apartment. They told him to check classified on Onestart, and he has, but has not had luck.

He may have to live in a dorm again next year, but I'm not sure if, at this point, dorms will even be available. Has anyone else had an experience like this, or can anyone offer suggestions? Thanks.

Go to the craigslist housing section for Bloomington, Indiana, which is located here:

[craigslist: bloomington classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events](http://bloomington.craigslist.org/)

then click on the sections entitled “housing” near the top in the center

There are sections for “apts/housing” and “rooms/shared”, and you will find lots of people looking to either rent or share apartments for the summer or for next Fall.

P.S. Lots of time, you will have to rent starting at the beginning of summer, since most of the rental contracts run as year-long ones. This is the inconvenience (and cost problem) of not being in a dorm. The good news is that you won’t have to worry about moving your stuff during the summer if you renew from year-to-year, and that you will have months to move in and get acclimated with your new roommate(s). It is occasionally possible to find rentals starting in August, but those are the exceptions, not the rule.
