How hard will it be to secure decent housing if i don't put my housing contract in until after April 1st? I'm waiting until April to hear from my first choice school. Consequently, i havn't put in my housing contract. Does this mean i'm stuck in the undesirable and/or temporary housing area? I'd appreciate any and all info.

It is difficult to tell. Usually if you get it in before May 1, you are likely to get one of the dorms but not necessarily one of your choice. However, there is a risk if you are at the tail end of housing applications of getting "temporary" housing, which mainly consists of room areas set up in some common areas of the dorms. Less likely is getting one of the Private Certified Housing Units although with those you can be put on a waiting list and often a number on the waiting list are offerred housing in July/early August because of students who reserved and later cancel.

You can apply for housing at UIUC before accepting the offer of admission. You would still have to pay the deposit, but it might be a risk worth taking. If you did apply for housing and then decided to go to another school, you would just want to make sure that by May you inform UIUC that you want your housing contract cancelled.

My twin brother and I currently have a lease for the new CPM building on 512 S. third st. (the luxury apartments). We have a four bedroom place for the two of us so far because two of our friends bailed out at the last second. We are looking for 2 roommates but one would even do. The years rent is around $6,000. I know it seems like alot but this place is totally worth it. It has never been lived in and has two floors, three full bathrooms, four bedrooms, granite counter tops, a huge living room, a view of the park, a washer dryer, and it is close to the campus. This place is nothing but luxurious. We have bought a brand new couch and a 52'' plasma tv for next year thanks to our older brother. My brother and I our nice and easy to get along with, so if you need a place Email me at mmontoy2@uiuc.edu to get more info.
Thanks
