Any chance that they will let my recommender submit it after the deadline? I am applying to two fellowships, and after 2 reminder emails and a phone call, I got him to submit his letter today, but he only submitted it to one of the two fellowships. The deadline is tonight at midnight, and I'm sure he's already in bed. I don't understand how he could be so absent minded. I could not have made it any clearer...

I put a lot of work into my application. I'd hate to see it be wasted because my professor can't read his emails.

See the thread on late LORs. Although I can’t specifically address fellowships, almost everyone expects professor letters to be late. I think it was Mollie who said that as long as you make your own deadlines, graduate schools will be lenient about the arrival of LORs. I really can’t say whether that’s also true of fellowships.

relax. its absolutely critical that the applicant has their materials in by the deadline, but the LORs are often a couple of days late.
And most profs know this!

It’s well-understood that grad schools are lenient about late LORs, but I think for fellowships it depends. For example, the NSF GRFP looks like it’s pretty strict about deadlines for both applicants and LOR writers. Just a heads-up though, if you’re applying for the NSF, the deadline for LORs has been extended to Friday at midnight.
