Late materials for ED

If Brown received one of my teacher recommendations late after I realized it never got there and my counselor forgot to send first quarter grades until the end of November, do you think they would by any chance just automatically push me to the regular pool? Does anyone know if this is a common practice? Thanks :)

You need your first quarter grades? I could've sworn that you needed your counselor to provide a mid-year report comprising quarters one and two by mid-February.

As for the rec, I suppose it depends on how late it gets/got there.

They sent me the letter telling me they were missing my rec around November 16th and I received it during Thanksgiving vacation. I sent it the day I got back through fax, and they received it like the 28th.

And yes, they said they wanted first quarter grades by November 15th if possible.

Oh well, only 8 days until I find out anyway if I've been pushed to regular/rejected.

Aha, I see it now.

Not much I can do since my first quarter grades were released a few days ago, and I think they've stopped accepting forms. I'm going to e-mail them about that.

How serious do you think it is if they don't have your grades ? I know my daughter did not submit them....And they were straight A's....She did not get notified that anything is missing....

I don't think they "officially" ask for first quarter grades on their requirements. Interestingly, though, my S's GC automatically sends first quarter grades to the students' ED/EA schools. When I inquired why they do this, they said they have done this for years and that they are just being proactive, and the colleges appreciate it.

There was nothing said about 1st quarter grades said to either me or my counselor....

The thing about 1st quarter grades is on the secondary school report form, I"m pretty sure. In the fine print at the end of the form.

It's in bold somewhere on the form.

Here's the response I got back after I e-mailed them:

Dear xxxxx,

First quarter grades are not required, but we would like to have them. Please have your school fax them to us at (401)863-9300.

Best wishes,

The Board of Admission

yea, my GC said she was told by Brown to send first quarter grades. A couple days later, a lady from Brown called my GC and asked whether grades were sent. My GC said yes they were and they concluded that Brown had not processed the paperwork yet, so my GC read off grades to the lady..

haha! That's pretty funny. She did that instead of sending a transcript?

oh no lol, she just read my first quarter grades (7 classes) to the Brown lady..that would be pretty hilarious to read 3 yrs worth of grades

Odd, I hope the reason why they didn't ask for them from my GC wasn't b/c they just automatically thought I sucked anyway and just rejected me

My school is trying a new grading system, so I was really late sending quarter grades. When I emailed admissions, they said to have the counselor call, but they didn't say not to bother or that it was too late.

My d talked to the guidance counsellor - she faxed the grades to Brown yesterday -- so they are still accepting them.

Better late than never, right? Obviously better on time.

But look at your situation for what it is. You can't change it. You're missing things. And you HAVE to send those things in to be considered. So just do it.

Out of curiousity, I checked the Brown Form 2A from the GC, and as pointed out by Skyway, it is indeed in bold and states:

"For Early Decision applicants, first quarter grades
for the senior year must be submitted as soon as available,
preferably by November 15."

And I agree with the comments above - send it in (fax) as soon as possible.

So what if your school has semesters? You don't send anything?

Just to make it clear for any panicking, it's not required. It's just preferable.

Of course, I'm hoping to get them in ASAP.
