Late or good karma??

Whats with the pricely looking brochure I recieved today with the application process sheet included( a little late hey?). Just late or do they find me a viable candidate? Love Johns Hopkins but not too "green" if they send this amount of paper out to all applicants - got to REDUCE people!!! Two steps forward one step back? We'll get there I guess.

My son got one too. It came just a week back, and it's HUGE. Don't know why they sent it now.

Don't be so happy.

Most of the applicants receive the course book.

I hope this didn't ruin your hope. My 2 cents.

No hope ruined - I'll keep my fingers crossed until decisions are made. Anyways, just thought it odd about such a pricey mailing - then again it could have been hung up in the US postal service or maybe they are just trying to unload dated material. On a forum like this everybodys 2 cents is valid - can't say I'd ever say to anyone "Don't be so happy." though. Wishing you happiness just the same!

This occurs every year and is not because the Admissions Office is mailing out promotional materials after our application deadlines. Our viewbook mailing which is sent out to all prospects in our database throughout the fall of one's senior year is sent by MEDIA MAIL. We have learned that this is one of the least reliable ways to send mail through the US Postal System. Unfortunately due to the size and nature of the mailing, MEDIA MAIL is the only way we can mail the packages.

95% of these packets arrive in advance of the application deadline. However, at times, especially during the December holiday mail rush, these media mail packets can get stuck in the mail delivery system and arrive months later than they should have.

And as far as your "GREEN COMMENT" -- we are actually a much greener office than ever before. We ceased with paper applications this year and have moved to a completely paperless application review system. However, due to the demands of the majority of college-seeking students, college viewbook mailings are still crucial and therefore we will continue to be mailing our award-winning viewbook to future prospective applicants.

Ahhh, so my guess on the US postal service was correct. Maybe 5 day a week delivery would not be such a handicap after all! It will take time for many offices to become greener - most colleges are more on top of this effort than high schools from what I have seen. And the view book is quite spectacular - I see why it is award winning!

I haven't received a viewbook. Are these books sent to internationals too?

Can I have a Johns Hopkins viewbook? :D

I signed up for a WUSTL viewbook just for the heck of it even though I'm a sophmore at Hopkins... I wanted to learn more about the school :-P

I haven't got one and am international so I assume that internationals don't receive these?

It may just take longer.

My S has not received one. Meanwhile, I am bugging clients to get me their 1099 forms so that I can complete my tax return and get it to the IDOC people by 3/1 for JHU financial aid consideration, which we probably won't qualify for anyway. I probably shouldn't take not receiving the course book as a bad sign, and certainly won't mention it to my S (who, thank goodness, is too busy to read college-application forums), but this isn't helping my motivation for getting the taxes done 2 months early.

You can download a PDF of our viewbook here:
