Late SAT Scores

I applied to UVA early action using the Common App, which I'm sure many of you know, requires you to submit your SAT scores. Naive as I was, I thought that I only had to send my SAT scores via Common App, and not via CollegeBoard as well. Today, I finally decided to read my UVA from a couple days ago which told me to create account; after it was cretede, my account page stated that my application was incomplete because I didn't send my official SAT scores. After I figured out what they were talking about, I promptly went on CollegeBoard and did the express thing which sends scores in 2 days or less.

Question is: Will I be deferred to Regular Decision if my SAT scores come in a day or two late even if they are already on my Common App?

No, you don’t be deferred simply because of late scores. No worries there.

Be sure to read the directions for your regular decision schools. The need for official test scores is spelled out in our instructions (2nd line of the chart, in text below).

Thank you very much for your input. I feel about foolish now, as I’ve been on that site before and read all of it, but I was confused when it said “we are a paperless office and submitting documents by mail is not recommended,” so I felt that just sending SAT scores via Common App would be satisfactory. Thanks for clearing up the confusion I had.

Also, on a related note, what about AP scores? I talked to the admissions office, and in addition to talking about my “official” SAT scores, I asked if I also had to send my AP scores via CollegeBoard. I was surprised to hear that I didn’t, as I thought I had to send all “official” standardized test scores. So was the UVA representative correct, or do I have to send my AP scores as well?

AP scores are self reported. You send them when you enroll so you can get credit for high scores.

This is a great question that gets posed quite often. AP scores for all colleges are not required. You may self report your scores on your applications, but again not required. In May of your senior year when you take your AP exam(s) you will write down the name of the college you are attending-by then you will know since by May 1st most colleges need your notification of acceptance. At this juncture College Board will send your scores to that particular school in July/August for them to possibly give you college credit.

The self report section of an application is in place for a college to see how well you do with a college level course end of the year exam. Most colleges really look at your grade for the course overall. The main purpose of the AP exam score is for determining college credit.

This is a rough/brief overview, hope it answered your question. So basically the admissions rep at UVa was correct you do not need to send them.

woosah, The “admissions rep” , Dean J, is certainly going to give “correct” info where UVa admissions questions are concerned.

SevMom I was referring to the ‘admissions rep’ the poster spoke with on the phone. I actually was typing and posted and did not realize Dean J had posted shortly prior to mine.

woosah, That makes sense. Sorry . That explains your post then, puts it into the proper context.
