My daughter will go to BU this fall. We are so late searching for scholarship, I think! I'm looking for next year scholarship for her but don't know if as a current freshman next year she is qualified for any schlarship for undergraduate student. Please help!

It is very late to be looking for scholarships for this fall.

As for the following year(s)…it’s very difficult to find outside scholarships for continuing students. Your D may find some luck at her college within her major dept. However, that may only be once she’s a junior, and if she’s the top student of her major. These awards aren’t usually very large and may only be for one year.

Since your post sounds rather desperate, are you sure that you can afford this school?

If your looking for ways to cut your expenses, you might want to have your D work over the summer to contribute towards the costs.

Kinda late to find any scholarships for this Fall. Have you contact BU?

BU gave us needed basic award, but still we have to cover 2/3 of the tuition. Yes, my daughter will have to work next year and luckily, we still have some relatives live in Boston who will take her in after freshman year. Guess that I have to shop around for scholarships out there. Thanks for replying…

This is a train wreck waiting to happen. There is no way you’ll be able to find >$25K in scholarships year to year. Rethink your D attending BU.

That’s a little harsh, Erin’s Dad. OP didn’t say they had to find $25K in scholarships. I imagine they are just trying to see if they can chip away at that burden, not eliminate it completely.

Even if the family needs to find a few thousand each year in scholarships in order to make the school affordable, that’s not likely going to happen for a continuing student.

It does sound like the family plans on saving some money by having their child live with relatives after Year One (don’t know if they plan on giving the relatives any money towards her food expenses). However, that can mean that the student will then need a car and then there will be gas, insurance, and repair bills to deal with. And, the student will still likely have some on-campus food expenses.

It does appear that the family found the school first, and now is dealing with paying for it.

Sad yet familiar story.

Perhaps you’re right MommaJ. I took that statement to mean the OP was looking for scholarships for 2/3 of tuition which is north of $25K. They might just be looking to reduce the amount THEY would have to pay. If, however, the only way to make this happen is with scholarship $ I hope the OP reconsiders.
