I am instate for Maryland and applied by November 1st to UMCP. I have a 3.81 uw and 4.7 w at a top 5 public school in the state with solid extracurriculars and awards. At the time I submitted my application I had a 1520 on the SAT. When I took the November SAT I got a 35 and I didn’t really rush in sending it into Maryland because I believed my admission was a lock. But lately I have been thinking about submitting the 35 Act to get more merit aid. If I submit it today or tomorrow do you think admissions will still consider it.
I think you are right that you are a lock with those stats. But I also don’t see any downside–other than the expense–to sending the ACT score. They’ll either consider it or not, but take the shot. Good luck!
The priority deadline is not a red line (meaning it’s not wishy washy), so no, don’t waste your money.
Think about it. If they considered additional information from you at this point, that would open a floodgate of additional information that would need to be considered from every single applicant.
I would imagine they are already past the first stage of admissions decisions and they likely have already sent your app, if admitted, to be considered for LEP admission if your intended major falls into that category.
And trust me, there is no such thing as a “lock”…obviously, you are a strong candidate, so all the best to you in the college admissions/decisions process.
Merit scholarships are released around mid-February, as I recall. So there may be a time delay between admission and scholarship decisions, but it may also just be a matter of logistics. As @maryversity stated, it would be unfair for UMD to accept an update, almost 2 months after the deadline, from just one person and not from everyone.
