I was admitted to UMass Amherst and their NSO emails went into my spam box. I just found out the deadline to register for NSO was yesterday, what do I do!? I can’t call their office right now because it’s a weekend. Will this affect me going to UMass? They said orientation is mandatory for new students.
@underscoreone You’ve probably figured this out by now but just phone them on Monday as early as possible. Be ready with a payment method (credit card) if they were asking for one. I guarantee you aren’t the only person who forgot to register. If you’ve set up a .edu college email make sure you check it daily. My son’s roommate missed an assignment because he failed to read an email from a professor. Good luck in college!
Guys they said I would probably have to take an online orientation. How big a deal is it to miss irl orientation?
If they’re saying that you’ll have to miss traditional college orientation (the purpose of which is to get to know your new classmates, with plenty of fun activities to help you do so) in favor of one online, that seems kinda strange.
Unless they’re talking about a different kind of orientation, or a different part of it. Last year before we got on campus, us freshman had to take online courses about alcohol and sexual harassment/assault. They were part of orientation but obviously weren’t what you might think of when you picture “freshman orientation.” Maybe that’s what your college is referring to, and because you were too late signing up, you have to take it online as opposed to on campus with everyone else because there aren’t enough spots or something?
Again, it seems strange that they would make you do it online (how would you even DO freshman orientation online?) but the deadline was there for a reason, I guess.
I believe some colleges do offer online modules for those students who cannot attend orientation day. D had to miss her orientation. Perhaps, this is something similar because of missing the signup deadline.
