I made a huge mistake and I have no idea what to do. Before my school went on Winter Break I asked my counselor about sending in transcripts and she gave me a paper with instructions to send them online. However, I stupidly assumed that the transcripts would be sent electronically because that's what I thought I had heard. Actually going online, to send my transcripts, I noticed that it was just a transcript REQUEST form. Now school's out and I have no idea what to do and I am freaking out about sending transcripts because the due dates are on the weekend before the start of school. I have finished applications to the numerous schools that will not have my transcript by the deadline and even had the interview for Harvard. This is making me depressed and I can't concentrate on anything. What should I do?

Calm down…everything will be okay. Although colleges prefer applicants to get all material in by the specified deadline, they will still accept transcripts and recommendation letters late. Since colleges are aware that students must rely on guidance counselors for transcripts, they are willing to excuse a late transcript because it may not be under your control. Just try to make sure your guidance counselor sends it in as soon as possible and colleges should not hold it against you

All paper materials have to be postmarked by the due date. Bring an envelope to the post office and have it time stamped ahead of time, this way, technically, it is postmarked by that date. But don’t worry about it too much, there’s a lot of leeway for paper materials.

Your part of the application must be postmarked by the due date. Additional materials may be sent later, though ASAP.
