So I idiotically waited until the last minute to turn in my NYU application.

I had been making last minute changes to my application all night, and decided to take my chances and edit my short answers.
Fumbling over the credit card numbers, I finally submitted my application and breathed a sigh of relief as I looked at my clock and saw 9:58 P.M.

Next came the heart attack when I arrived at the Submit Confirmation page to see...

Time and Date Submitted: 1/16/2008 12:58:00 AM (ET)

I had totally forgotten that New York was three hours ahead...
Will NYU understand that I am in California and therefore live in a time zone three hours ahead of the deadline? Or is it considered late?
Also, how do you know if it's considered late? Because I haven't received any notice saying "Your application was LATE!",
but I have received confirmations that they received my application.

If anyone could shed some light on my situation, I would really appreciate it. I've asked around, and this hasn't happened to anyone I know before.

Yup, they will see that you live in CA- they've had the whole 'time zone' ordeal before, probably.

Even if you weren't in CA, you want to know a secret? Colleges secretly don't care about a couple of hours (even days in some cases) late. Everyone makes a huge deal about being minutes/hours late, but I know plenty of people that turned it in late and were fine.

This happened to a couple people around Jan 1st and I think they all decided that they would be fine- maybe you can search WAY far back in the threads and contact some of those people if you're still worried.

The Common App doesn't "know" when each school's deadline is ... so it doesn't "cut you off" physically. The submit date changes at midnight EST.
