The other appeal of the school is that all the girls that do party (because there are so ****ing many of them amirite?!) are all super hot. hahaha oh wait…
keep bragging about how Duke “rages so hard” but I’d rather not be partying with ugly girls all day every day

Yeah, because out of thousands of students, I’m sure there are no hot girls. I’m sure you went through the entire campus, saw every girl, and made that assessment. And I’m mad? You go through Duke forums, a school you clearly don’t like, just to find a thread and bash them. Who’s the pathetic one?

Haha and the funny thing is, sharkfin, I doubt you have ever been to Duke and actually seen the students. You are just making an assumption. A wrong one.

You think someone can’t be good looking and smart? You are pathetic

Nah, but at top 25 schools there are, like USC, UMich, UCLA, UVa, etc. so why compromise hanging out with attractive people when you get essentially the same education?
Because that’s exactly what I said. Man you Duke kids, for going to such an amazing school, are incredible dense. Sorry that I didn’t explicitly state that there are obviously exceptions to my generalization, next time I will spell everything out for you.
Actually, I like Duke a lot. I just don’t like some of the posters from Duke. In fact I think Duke is a phenomenal school and anyone lucky enough to attend should jump on the opportunity. And you’re just as pathetic, imo, if you’re going to respond to my OBVIOUS ■■■■■ attempts. dumbasssssssss

I have actually been to the school, thanks. I visited it when I was considering applying to schools, but I didn’t think I would get in (please flame me for this ) plus I didn’t like the environment AND i noticed the lack of attractive girls.
See above. Duke’s known for its academics, not its hot girls. Keep trying to justify the reason you’re going to apply there, though.
Again, because this is obviously EXACTLY what I said. ****ing ■■■■■■
Alls I’m saying is the attractive AND smart women at Duke are going to be hard to find, whereas at USC, you’ll get the extremely hot and quite intelligent girl in a way better climate (worse campus imo though) and with better athletics (save basketball).

Im glad you are basing your college choice off of the attractiveness of the girls that go there. I bet you get a TON of them too. I see this foreshadowing a very successful and happy future in life for you…

And yes, I will flame you for thinking you wont get in. I guarantee that if you were applying and thought you had even a small shot you would never have written that comment. Sounds like you are bitter…

And your right. You were generalizing. We were just trying to point out that it was in fact a generalization, not the truth. And I do hope you realize that not ALL people who go to USC, UMich, etc are attractive…dumbasssssssss

I don’t see why you wouldn’t factor that in when making a decision on where you’re going to spend the next 4 to 5 years of your life. It’s huge when deciding for most people aside from those at the VERY TOP of the applicant pool (i.e. those applying to HYPSM + Duke, other Ivies, etc.) because those people are generally the LEAST attractive people. So obviously they wouldn’t take it into account. It’s not narrowmindedness by any means - it’s simply something the majority of the people do care about when choosing a college, but just aren’t as open about it. And no I don’t get a ton of them, but I get enough to where I’m happy. So yes, you could say that I have a happy future in store…

I didn’t think I had a small shot, because I wasn’t particularly well versed in the college application process seeing as I’m the oldest in my family and had no prior experience. But I ended up getting waitlisted, then accepted at Harvard, accepted to Dartmouth, and accepted to Wharton (rejected at S, Y, MIT, and Princeton). So actually, in retrospect, I do think I wouldve gotten in, easily. Not bitter though, because I’m at a state school where I got almost a full ride, and I get to enjoy quality athletics, ATTRACTIVE people, and a great education.

That’s what generalizations are - they can’t be 100% true. And please, point me in the direction of the post where I said ALL the people at those schools were attractive. Oh wait, I didn’t. I sincerely hope you get into Duke so you can further the amount of ■■■■■■■■ Duke students on these forums (just kidding it’s just you and Lesdiasbleus or whatever tf his name is). I’m quite aware that not ALL the people at those schools are attractive, but the proportion of attractive people there is exponentially larger than at schools like Duke.

Congratulations on your win. Your trophy should be arriving in the mail within the next week.

I understand considering the attractiveness of they students into your decision - I definitely am considering it too. However, you just made it sound like it was a HUGE part in your decision, and thats all you cared about. Personally there are other factors way more important to me, as I know there will be attractive girls at any school, even the Ivies. Plus, if the student body is “not attractive” in general, then that would include the guys - which leaves more attractive girls for the taking :)

Just to let you know, this is just pointless, internet banter that will never end and no one will win. Neither of us will ever change our opinions. I hope your personal attacks on me make you fell better about yourself with your obviously low self esteem. If you are in college right now, why the hell are you on this forum? Seriously, get out of your dorm room for once and go hang out with all these attractive girls you talk about.

On a serious side note, and let us forget our little argument for a second - did you really turn down Harvard for a state school? Im in all honestly just curious on this one. If it was for money reasons I completely understand, but if not, why would you turn down Harvard? Man. You could do anything with your life if you had a Harvard degree under your belt.

NCBoy1 and Lesd… are incapable of seeing or discussing any of Duke’s negatives…they resort to name-calling and personal attacks, as if the criticisms (realities) are about them. Don’t waste your time trying to have an intelligent discussion with them, and I am certain that those individuals who are looking objectively at the posts see their narrowness.

Michigan doesn’t really have more attractive girls than Duke and neither does UCLA or Cal. Those schools have 4 times as many undergrads so there are more hot girls in number but they are also a lot more ugly girls. UVA and UNC do have more attractive girls than Duke but neither of these schools are in the same league as Duke academically.

I almost guarantee you whatever state school you go to has a worse basketball program than Duke. Basketball and Football are the only sports that matter in college so the only school that is an advantageous position over Duke athletically is Michigan State because it is amazing at both sports right now.

hahaha I get **** for it all the time, but I couldn’t be happier with my choice. My top 3 criteria for choosing a college were whether they had quality athletics (and it was a big part of everyone’s social life), how great the social life would be (as I saw it), and the location/city it was in (not a big fan of Boston). Harvard doesn’t have the kind of D1 football/hockey/basketball programs where the fans go wild and the teams actually succeed. As I haven’t experienced the social life at Harvard, I can’t really say, but the parties/greek life at most big state schools trounce Harvard’s I would think. And I wanted a college town where people literally stop what they’re doing for game day, where the town revolves around the college and not vice versa, and I wasn’t really in to being so close to Boston. Plus I don’t qualify for need based aid, and I got nearly a full ride at the school I’m at now.

I disagree. Michigan does have more attractive girls, and in larger numbers. I’ve visited the school plenty of times, have family/friends out there, and I know what it’s like. UCLA even moreso. The girls at UCLA are super ****ing hot, which is what you’ll find at any southern California school. That’s just the way it is. I said nothing about Cal (for a reason) but I’m pretty sure the girls at Duke are more attractive than the one’s at Berkeley. Berkeley just doesn’t attract that many hot girls.

Congrats, you guys do. The basketball team at the school I go to isn’t even in the top 25, but that’s ok because I’m not really a fan. And while you could argue Basketball and Football are the only sports that really matter, it’s mostly football that matters, and basketball in March. Aside from that, nobody really cares. And actually in the North/Northeast, hockey is pretty big.

And as an aside, I’m pretty sure every large state school in the top 50 academically has a better football team than Duke. So to each their own

I may have misread your post but did you really just say you got waitlisted from Duke, and then subsequently state that in retrospect you could have easily gotten in? Also, if the difference between you choosing USC or UCLA over Duke is based on girls, you are in the tiny (and delusional) minority. And it’s not that we’re not able to see the school’s faults (because obviously we love the school and will support it, otherwise we wouldn’t have chosen it) it’s that posters like you do nothing but bring up the negatives over and over for personal reasons that bring nothing helpful to the discussion (see sharkfin’s self-admitted ■■■■■■■■).

Just letting you know, a freshman at Duke who graduated from MY SCHOOL was actually very good-looking (I know, what am I thinking?). Seriously, she would trump a lot of the girls at UCLA, USC, etc. And this is just from ONE school. So stop making generalizations because you’re bitter.

I value the social life at the college I will be attending highly; I feel like I have a solid amount of game, so obviously the looks are important to me, BUT NOT THAT IMPORTANT. Hey, if I was accepted to Duke with 100% ugly girls (for example) or UNC with 100% hot girls (for example), I’d go to Duke. I think the attractiveness of the student body is gravy, but not important enough to “trounce” academics, which will ultimately lead to a more successful life (in general).

Good grief, people need to leave poor Sharkfin alone. I don’t think anyone would say that Duke is like, say, Ole Miss. On the other hand, it’s maybe better than somewhere like Chicago. (A school of which I’m very fond, I should add.) In any case, I don’t think any of us are in a position to say what factors should and should not play a role in someone’s college decision.

As for this:
What rubbish.

Does fun at Georgetown include “above-the-law-minded students” who decided to manufacture DMT? Is there a “drug culture” at Georgetown?

I can think of a state school 8 miles away that has better football and basketball programs than Duke. Kentucky has better football and basketball programs than Duke as well.
