I am having a hard time choosing between the two. I am going into Duke as a Bio Major intent on going to med school. Spanish is useful in today's world, especially for a doctor. I took 3 years in high school and am fairl competent in it. The thing is...i hate it. Latin is obviously much tougher, but I am thinking it may be more useful when it comes to the mcat. I want my foreign language to be easy and i want it to boost my GPA...so can anyone help me?

p.s. how does the foreign language work. if i took 3 years of spanish in h.s. do i still have to do 3 semesters of foreign language. i didn't take ap spanish, so i have no credit.

Latin would also be useful - I've already taken a few years of it, including one AP class, and am headed for another AP Latin next year. I found it extremely helpful for the SAT and it definitely would for the MCAT. It may be just a stereotype that Latin is all that much tougher - I took Latin I, found it very simple, tested out of Latin II just by studying through second-year latin book for a month or two, and instead of taking Latin III did AP Latin: Vergil. In that class, I managed a 98 first semester, 100 second semester, and let me tell you, it was definitely not an easy class, plus the teacher wasn't AP certified so we didn't get the extra 10 points. HOWEVER the first few years of Latin are definitely do-able without too much work I would say. It boosted my GPA in high school, so I think it's probably work for you too :]

BUT if you're the type that will do things you hate [spanish ;P] because you want it to be "easy and want it to boost your GPA" then Spanish will obviously be very useful as well. Some jobs even hire people on the basis that they are bilingual.

Also, I enjoy Latin a lot [well, that doesn't mean that YOU'll like it, but you might]. It could also supplement your Spanish skills, since you already have 3 years of that under your belt. Anyway, hope this helps you make your decision! :]
