Last year, I got an 86 in Latin. Latin is my second foreign language (I also take advanced Spanish in which I got a 95). How is this going to affect my chances at prestigious schools? My overall GPA is a weighted 97, unweighted 95. Thanks!

Latin is a good class to take. The elite colleges like to see classics. Plus Latin will really help on the SAT.

Thank you. But will the so-so grade matter that much?

seriously this stuff i think is ****ing everyone off, a B in highschool is not going to make it impossbile to get in the ivies, maybe a C but not B's

I used to show empathy or sympathy or whatever, but one stinking B won't keep any school from accepting you

Thanks for that info.

Thank you.

Actually I applied to Cornell and I was rejected because I had an 83 in Math for one semester. The rest of my grades were around 96-100 and my GPA was 97 (unweighted). On my SATs I got a 1400.. Keep working hard!

college admissions aren't one dimensional.

JP3 did they TELL you it was because you made a C (not a B)?

BCgoUSC, most schools consider an 83 a B. Regardless, I don't think Cornell actually tells anyone why they were rejected. You CAN get into an Ivy with a B on your transcript, and it's totally worth it to have Latin under your belt.

I agree. I have taken 3 years of Latin. All I was saying was that he made, what my school considers a C, and claims that that is why Cornell rejected him. I'm sure he has no idea if that is the real reason.

Yeah, I agree.

When I applied to Cornell, I had four B's on my transcript (most schools do consider an 83 a B though) and was still accepted; one isn't going to keep anyone out...

And I don't think they tell you why they make their admissions decisions either.

Hmm odd about the 83 deal. We do 93-100, 85-92, 76-84, 70-75, 0-69

Ours is 90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, 60-69 D, 59-0 F, which I think is pretty much standard, though I know a lot of schools do do it differently.
