Hi I just wanted to know if anybody knows the like average stats to get accepted in this program and wanted to see if the time you applied plays any factor in either getting accepted or denied. Also wanted to know if anybody has ever done this program and could give me some insight on what you do during the week you are there. Any feedback would be appreciated thanks.

bump!!!

I went to the program last year…it was one of the best weeks of my life
I do not know about averages, but I will put it like this: more than half of the kids I met that week are Ivy caliber (many got into ivys in the early round)…I hope that helps a little bit with that question…
About activities…
On the mornings of the first two days we had classes and lectures about different topics that relate to the Latino Community…leadership, economics, sociology, we even had a theology class!
The third day we spent the day in Chicago, visiting a Latino neighborhood and then the last couple hours we went to Navy Pier
The last days, they divided us into teams and we prepared a presentation that was sort of a Mock congress, all oriented toward the benefits of Latinos
Personally, I learned a lot…as with anything, it all depends on what you bring to the table…my group was full of very intelligent, socially aware people, so discussions would get very interesting

Oh, and in the afternoons, we would have “social events” and an ongoing scavanger hunt through the week (they take advantage of the fact that most of us are overachievers). I expected the activities to be kind of lame, but I had a lot of fun!!! So if you go you will be very busy, but you will enjoy it!

Thanks so much for responding! I really hope now I get accepted into the program because it sounds like a lot of fun and I can’t wait to meet other overachievers like me! My only concern is that I did kind of send in my application at the last minute because I did not become aware of the program until near the deadline. Although, I do believe I wrote 2 good essays and have shown enough leadership in my community especially within the Latino Community here where I live, that would make me a highly competitive candidate. Thanks for your input I really appreciate it!!

I sent my application at the last minute too,…I sent everything the day it was due, so if you are going to be selected, you will be selected even if you made that same mistake :]

One last question… I know it says on the website that they send a letter whether you get in or not but , is it a big packet or is a just a letter and then they send other stuff? Do they send an e-mail of any type that may refer to you getting accepted into the program?

Big packet, no other previous signs, if I remember correctly :)

Good luck everyone, we find out today or tomorrow!! Did anyone else find the requirements for application unnecessarily low? For Global Issues (which I also applied to), I needed a 30, but for LCLS I only needed a 28. As for the SAT, LCLS would take a score of up to 100 points lower than that of GIS. I found that somewhat trivial is all.

yeah i dont know… that 28 is somewhat low and remember this is an average so they’re are people below 28 who have gotten in and people above 28, but it never hurts to be above the average : )! I haven’t taken the ACT yet but, at my school sophomore year we took the PLAN which is supposed to predict you score on the ACT and my range was 30-33 so I just put that on my application. I can’t wait to get our letters! Hopefully it makes it here to California by Monday (which I doubt) so I can see whether I got in or not before my Kairos Retreat. Best of luck to everyone and I hope I will see you there!
