I got a letter from Duke today telling me I should visit and that I've basically been accepted. It seems like a likely letter in disguise.

Does anyone know how many people get this? Anyone here get one?

It IS a likely letter lol.

I received one as well. I'm pretty sure that it is a likely letter! Anyways, will you be going? I'm planning on visiting.

Yeah I got that letter too! I'm nearly positive I've been accepted, because I was a semi-finalist for Robertson's and then I got this letter too. Are ya'll going to that weekend? It's the same weekend as a big debate tournament I'm going to participate in that I really don't want to miss, but I really want to visit Duke.

Sorry to derail the thread, but what tournament is it, j07?

I hate that word, Latino. The problem is that it has a very different connotation, depending on where you come from. It has become more popular in the US, but i find it that historically it has been somewhat derogatory. It should be hispanic.... afterall.... is latino an English word??

Q. Does this mean I've been admitted to Duke?

A. Naturally, inviting you to campus means that we think you're a very strong candidate for admission. Very occasionally, something happens or we receive new information between the time we mail our invitation and the time we finalize admissions decisons, and we find we can't admit someone we've invited. But that's very rare. Your chances of being admitted are excellent.

Just got it today. I think it is a likely :D

As far as visiting goes, I don't think I can go. I hope not attending doesn't hurt my chances.

On second thought, I might actually go. It sounds pretty exciting :D

i got one too! so excited!

so I assume you're going?

it should be a fun weekend.

looks like it. ive got some tests on that day so im gonna have to talk to my professors..

Double check the dates of the program and the date where your admissions decision goes live... in the past there's been some overlap of dates. (or this was immediately after decisions were posted which was the case in my year, I think - because I remember getting invited and then saying "well why would I book airfare if I'm going to get rejected right before?")

I'm pretty certain that Duke would not invite a student to campus to then reject him while he's there.

that would be the most effed up thing ever. though decisions for other schools do come out while I'll be over there. hopefully I can check the decisions at the library.

precisely, jag and freshelephant. duke would not waste YOUR time and money to reject you while you're already on campus...

yeah you can check decisions at the library or on your host's computer.

They sometimes plan these weekends to coincide with when the ivies send out their decisions. Pretty clever if you ask me.

haha yeah- i remember when i hosted one girl, either her first or second night she was checking her decisions for the ivies. i think the biggest evetns were planned for that night too

so anyone have any idea aprox. how many people will be attending?

I googled the program and back in 2000, only 84 showed up to campus (I'd imagine that most would accept the invitation). So maybe around... 100?

Does every latino student that didnt recieved this are rejected???
