Hey,

I read in the YDN an editorial about Yale's not being on the top 25 Universities for Latinos because it did not make the 7% latino cut while rival institutions Harvard, MIT etc were ranked highly in this poll by Hispanic Magazine.

So do you think adcoms are actively trying to increase Latino population? Or not, since the report was just released??

I have gotten a Harvard likely, early writes from Swat and Amherst....will Yale love me?? I love it...

(and I'm Latina)

the end.....

Even if Yale was not actively trying to increase the Latino population, being a qualified one (as you seem to be, considering your early writes) would definitely work in your favor

apparently, Yale saw a huge rise this year in African-American and Latino groups in the applicant pool. If u got a Harvard likely, I'd say ur chances at Yale are very high.

im mexican and i didn't get anything!

not that i expect anything, of course.

does that include this year's class?
that's good. Harvard was really helpful giving me information, while I didn't get a response from Yale at all

i had a look at that list when I applied to colleges, but i applied to colleges not on that list, either... so, i'm not sure how much of an impact it has on hispanic students...

Pretty much...
Mexican myself, with low SAT scores and a not-so-amazing GPA. What were your stats since you got a likely letter?....any others wanna share how they stand: you can e-mail me, I'm not sure I want to post it up myself (to the public, that is)

Thanks for your response (or lack thereof)

Being a Mexican Yalie lemme say that we have a pretty vibrant Latino/a community. In reference to that YDN article, the Dean of Admissions actually says we /did/ have over 7% and the party ranking universities hadold Yale data.
There are plenty of things for Latino/as to do here. There are a few country-centric clubs- Mexico, Cuba, etc. There are also pan-Latin-American clubs. New Haven also has a pretty big Hispanic community, so there are definitely opportunities to go out into the public schools and help little kids.
The Ivy League's Latino/a groups like to keep in touch with each other and have conferences and such.
