LaunchX/MIT Launch 2019 Megathread

@tripledoubleg Hey there! LaunchX Alum and current interviewer here. Just wanted to let you know that invites are continuously going out and due to the nature of rolling admissions and the individual attention the LaunchX team gives every application, some interview requests may take longer than others to be sent out.

I hope I could offer a bit of relief at this time for those waiting for interviews! For everyone else, make sure to submit your applications by the February 25th deadline for regular decision consideration!

@tempest000 While Entrepreneurship experience can show the committee that you are a motivated and innovative individual, it is by no means required and it is just one path of many. Accepted students in the past have ranged from no entrepreneurship experience to Launchies who have grown and scaled several companies!

The team considers your whole application to build a balanced class of Launchies, and I can attest from participating last year, that the diverse peers I met last year were a part of why it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me! No matter what your entrepreneurship experience is, I encourage you to apply and would be happy to share more about my experience last year if you have any questions.

@sadstudent0525 There is not a certain number of individuals who are interviewed ā€“ each application is given a thorough review and chosen to be interviewed if the LaunchX team believes that it would add helpful additional information to the application. Hope that helps!

@stanroze Thanks for your insight!

When do decisions come out?

Hi everyone, I got into Launch X last year. Iā€™ll be lurking hear in case anyone has any questions. @stanroze though seems to have everything covered.

@GoBears2023 Iā€™ve always been more of a rounded candidate with a passion for STEM-based subjects, but I canā€™t seem to pinpoint my one ā€œtrueā€ area I know I want to go into yet. I do have a focus on CS/mathy subjects (research with professor and AIMEx3 hopefully x4 in a few days), but Iā€™m just interested in so many things. What advice can you give me for my application (started club but no actual entrepreneur experience?

@Elementalfury
I mean if you want STEM then why do LaunchX. Apply for science research programs then

@GoBears2023 Iā€™m doing those too :). Iā€™m just interested in creating an marketable product to step outside of my comfort zone. LaunchX was something that peaked my curiosity

@Elementalfury Sounds good. Best of luck!

@elementalfury LaunchX always seeks to build a balanced class so those interested in STEM are always welcome. As long as you have that entrepreneurial ā€œspiritā€, Iā€™d recommend that you applyā€¦entrepreneurs come from many different interests and passions and I wouldnā€™t say that being interested in such a wide variety of things would put you at any sort of disadvantage. In fact, starting the LaunchX club at your school shows your continued commitment to entrepreneurship. In your application, Iā€™d recommend heavily focussing on what makes you unique (STEM/CS interest), because that shows what youā€™ll be able to bring to the table during the program

Iā€™d be happy to answer any additional questions you may have!

@stanroze Thanks for the great insight! Iā€™m in the process of planning for my application video, so if you have any tips for amateur video makers Iā€™d love it.

Always happy to help! @Elementalfury
For your application video, itā€™s less about production value, and more about how you communicate your personality/experiences in a clear and engaging way! Weā€™d really like to get your personality out of it and put a face to a name/application by learning about your passions and entrepreneurial interests. Iā€™d recommend staying true to yourself, whether that means just talking for the full 90 seconds, showing pictures of your accomplishments, or a mixture of both!

@stanroze Thanks for all the useful information that you have shared! Do you know if the admission decision for early applications is rolling basis or notifications of acceptance will all come out on March 1st?

@soundbound2024 @stannyboston @HYPfuturereject: have you heard from LaunchX after your interview?

Just got accepted into the program today !!

@sadstudent0525, Wow, congratulations! So happy for you! When was your interview? Did you get into the MIT camp or UPenn camp?

Does everyone who gets in receive an interview? I submitted my application before the early deadline, should I be concerned that I havenā€™t received any emails or interview requests after I submitted my application?

Same here. If any of the alums or interviewers could let us know, that would be great!

@sadstudent0525 Congratulations! Youā€™re in for an experience of a lifetime
