LaunchX Summer 2020

@swhs12 it says u tagged me in a post recently, but I can’t seem to see it. Did you delete it or did something happen? I’m always open to feedback.

@rai6aish Hey, even I’m headed to Launch at Umich (Session 1), and I’m from India.

Has anyone from regular decision gotten an interview request or decision?

@BigBoi123456 @swhs12 Thank you for your answers!

For everyone who is seeing rejection letters after they scroll down in the application portal, I spoke with the LaunchX headquarters and they have let me know that it is a bug with their online application service. Your correct information should be at the top of the page, and if you scroll down to see the deny language, just go by what is at the top of your page. Also, you should have gotten or will be getting an email from LaunchX with your application status.

@rr12345 LaunchX let the applicants know somewhat on a rolling basis for the early applicants. Everyone found out on or before February 15th, and they could do something similar with the regular applicants. Unfortunately, I don’t think that they can give results early on a case by case basis just because of the large volume of applicants.

In terms of the LBW vs LaunchX discussion, one thing that I will say about LaunchX being a private company was that I felt like the fact that we were their main focus really made a big difference for me. At LaunchX, we never had to compete for attention with other summer programs or university services, as we were the main priority of our teachers. Also, the reason that they are no longer known as MIT Launch was so that they could expand the program to reach more students.

I almost went to LBW last year but decided not to, as I had the opportunity to do something I loved and run a summer camp teaching STEM to at-risk kids. I got into Wharton without going to LBW and I think that part of the reason for my acceptance was that I worked hard doing things that I loved. As high school students, we often spend a lot of our time doing what we can to get into good schools, but I really think that you should spend your summer doing something that makes you happy. If LBW will make you happy, do that, but you shouldn’t do it because you want to get into that school the next year. That’s just my personal opinion on the matter.

I received an interview request yesterday. Does anyone know around what percentage of those who receive interviews end up being accepted?

You just got a call for an interview, anyone have any tips? Is it more like a formal question and answer or a casual conversation?

@thepoptag6 I read on an earlier post that an interview doesn’t indicate whether you get in or not, as some people get in without it. Usually, it’s if an application reader wants more info about your application. Like say you have something on your application that’s pretty interesting or stands out, they might request an interview to get more info on it or like talk about it with you.

@BigBoi123456 yeah, I had replied to your post but something glitched and College Confidential didn’t save it as a reply, so I just kinda left it.

@BigBoi123456 Oh wait nvm it should be seen above yours.

@claireoxner your points are totally valid, I see where you’re coming from. Just wanted to make it clear though that I didn’t choose LBW over LaunchX because I somehow prefer Penn over MIT, it’s just that I had other reasons. LaunchX is certainly an excellent program and it was a close second to LBW for me, but I just, you know, had my reasons for choosing LBW and why I thought it would personally be a better fit for me.

How long did you guys wait for a decision after an interview?

1 week

@claireoxner Hi, I got a serious and urgent problem. I have just got a acceptance letter to Umichi session 1, which will start at Jun 7, but I am pretty sure that I set Jun 28 as the last day of my school, and ranked Umichi session 1 as the least preferred choice because of the schedule conflict. I heard that the committee assigns location based on my indicated schedule. The only suitable location for me is Umichi session 2, just in this condition, is it possible for me to email the committee to request a change? I will be so disappointed if I fails to attend this excellent program because of schedule problem.

Hello,
I also have an urgent issue that I am sure someone will be able to answer. I just got an email from Launch X asking to specify my location of choice by ranking. When I submitted my preference, it resubmitted my entire application. Will admissions consider it late, when in fact I submitted it before February 1st. What can I do?

@cmeyer23 don’t worry! I was accepted for early action and also had to submit my location preference. I was worried since it also resubmitted my entire app, but I’m pretty sure LaunchX sees it as an update to your app, and they won’t consider it late

Problem Solved! They moved me directly to UMichi session 2!

When you get the location preference does it mean that you got in?

When launch x asks for location preference, does that indicate they are highly likely to accept you?
